Study Tips And Strategies

1. Spaced repetition- Recalling from memory after a

certain period of time has elapsed, increasing this
interval of time as you get further from the moment this
information was first learnt.

For example using flashcards and reviewing them every other

day.

For this strategy the timing must be right and the information
should not be recalled too close to when it was first learnt and
also not too far so that the method can retain its effectiveness.

2. Active Recall- Using techniques which force you to

extract information that you previously learnt and apply it
in some way.

E.g Blurting; write down all the information you can remember
in as much detail as you can and when finished check over
and write down any points which you may have missed.

Active recall may also be in the form of practice questions,

which force you to think on something you learnt and apply it;
Checking your answers is highly important.
3. Interleaving- This is where one switches topics or
subjects often in the study session. Interleaving is similar
to block studying however one must find the right
balance of time in which to spend on one topic so that it
may be effective e.g 2 pomodoro blocks

4. Feynman Technique

Note Taking Skills

Mind Mapping- Mind mapping helps to better illustrate

concepts making them easier to understand and recall, it
interlinks similar concepts by way of similarities or even key
differences. It shows the thought process while learning, and
it engages the mind by tying concepts together in a more
concise rememberable pattern. Mind maps tie broad concepts
to larger concepts

TREE acronym:

T: Thought Process- Think about the KEY concepts of the

topic, remember, not everything is considered KEY so select
these concepts with reasoning.
R: Relationships- Find various ways in which each key
concept interacts with the other, or similarly, find differences
in these processes. Establish some sort of relationship
making it easier to chart these key concepts.

E: Expression: Pictures and diagrams are easier to recall that

just words. Using illustrations in mind maps helps for easier
memorization of these concepts.

E: Efficient: Ensure that this mind map is as efficient as

possible when it comes time to review.
