Ethical Issues (What ? - Why?)
Ethical Issues: are problems, situations, or
opportunities requiring an individual to
choose among actions that may be
evaluated as right or wrong, ethical or
unethical.
Types of Ethical Issues in Business
1. Discrimination
• Age, Disability, Equal pay, Race, Religion, Gender
2. Workplace health and safety
• Fall protection, Hazard communication, Ladders,
General electrical regulations
3. Accounting practices
• All organizations have to keep accurate financial
records and pay taxes

4. Abuse of Leadership Authority
• Pressure employees to skip over some aspects of
proper procedure to save time
• Punish workers who are unable to meet unreasonable
goals,
• Ask for inappropriate favors.
• change reports
• Give themselves credit for the work of a subordinate,
• Misuse expenses,
• Accept gifts from suppliers or clients.

5. Whistle-blowing
• A whistleblower - is someone who reports
workplace conditions that he or she believes to be
unsafe or illegal.
• Business owners must be able to respect and not
penalize employees who are deemed
whistleblowers to either regulatory authorities or
on social media
6. sexual Harassment
• This can come in the form of verbal abuse, sexual
abuse, teasing, racial slurs, or bullying. Also can
come from anyone in the company, as well as from
customers.

7. Nepotism
• Nepotism is when a company hires someone for
being a family member.
8. Favoritism
• Occurs when a manager treats an employee better
than other workers for personal reasons.
9. Espionage and Nondisclosure
• The practice of spying or using spies to obtain
information about the plans and activities especially
of a foreign government or a competing company

10. Privacy or Ranting on Social Media
• Employers may punish for posts on social media,
particularly if they complain about work conditions
or the company as a whole.
• Employers may even fire workers who post
controversial statements that go against company
values.
Note:
• Organizations should set the Electronic surveillance
system but doesn't violate the employee's privacy.

Issues
Multinational Corporations...
• A multinational corporation (MNC) is a
company that has business operations in at
least one country other than its home country.
• By some definitions, it also generates at least
25% of its revenue outside of its home
country.
• Generally, a multinational company has
offices, factories, or other facilities in different
countries around the world as well as a
centralized headquarters which coordinates
global management.

• Human rights - opportunistic use of child labor,
payment of low wages, abuses in foreign
factories
• Price discrimination - price gouging-a price
increase exceeding the costs of additional
expenses (taxes, etc.)
• dumping-charging high prices for products sold
in the home market and low prices that do not
cover costs in foreign markets (considered
illegal under many international laws)

• Bribery - offering or providing payments to
officials of foreign governments for the purpose
of obtaining or retaining business abroad
• Harmful products- product banned in many
industrial nations, considered harmful, are sold in
other countries where they are still legal
• Telecommunications - counterfeiting, knockoffs
• Pollution- accused of exploiting natural & human
resources
• Money laundering – the illegal process of making
“dirty” money appear legitimate instead of ill-
gotten.
