1. Work has two meanings
• She works in a museum = it’s her job
• The phone doesn’t work = it’s broken

2. Have or eat?
• Have can be used with both food and drink, and is common with meals.
e.g. have a sandwich, have a coffee, have lunch
• Eat can only be used with food.
e.g. eat fast food

3. Read the article and complete the things Carola likes (1-8) with a word or phrase
from the list. Listen and check.

We use the present simple for things that are generally true or that habitually happen.

Third person singular: Spelling rules:

1. For most verbs add -s.


e.g.: I work – he works
I eat – he eats
I like – he likes
I play – he plays

2. For verbs ending in consonant + -y: -y à -ies


e.g.: I study – he studies

3. For verbs ending in –ch, -sh, -o, -s, -x; add -es
e.g.: I do – he does
I watch – he watches

Make the negative with don’t (= do not) + infinitive or doesn’t (=does not) (for he, she, it) +
infinitive.
