1 There was an old man called Admiral Benbow who owned an inn by the sea. Jim Hawkins
was Admiral’s son who helped his father with their inn. They lived happily in their inn
with Jim’s mother who was a good woman who was never greedy.

2 One day, A strange man called The Captain or Bill came to stay in their inn. He seemed a
strange man. He had a scar on his face. He enjoyed telling exciting stories about his
adventures on the sea as a sailor. He always asked if any sailor had come to their inn.
Later, they knew that The Captain didn’t want any sailor to find him. He had something
important that they were looking for.

3 After a few months, a man called Black Dog came to the inn and asked about Captain Bill.
Black Dog as a name was a symbol of death, fear and darkness. It seemed that this man
was a bad man or a criminal. He was thin and pale, with three fingers on his left hand.
He met Bill who knew him. After a while, they fought each other. Then Black Dog ran away
with blood on his arm. Jim was very tired and ill. He fell over. Fortunately, Dr. Livesy
arrived to examine Jim’s father who was very ill. The doctor examined Bill and gave him
some medicines.

4 Jim’s father died suddenly. Jim felt terrible and forget everything strange about The
Captain. After a few days, a blind man came to see Bill and gave him a note. The note said
that Bill had until 10 o’clock that night. Suddenly, Bill fell to the ground and died.
Jim and his mother were frightened of what might have happened. They looked inside
Bill’s box in his room in the inn. They took the money which The captain owed to them.
However, Jim took some papers from the box. He thought that they should have told Dr.
Livesy asking for his help. They went to the village nearby to ask for help, but nobody
accepted to help them guard their inn.

5 Jim and his mother were afraid of the dangerous people who asked about Bill. When they
were in their way to the village again to hide there, Jim saw some men including Black
Dog and the blind man. It seemed that they wanted the papers that Bill had in his box.
When they discovered that the papers disappeared, they began to look for Jim and his
mother.

6 The dangerous men including Black Dog and the blind escaped on a boat when they saw
some men on horses came suddenly. Those men were the police. Jim and his mother were
safe and went to the village. However, Jim returned to the inn with the police. He told Mr.
Dance from the police everything and showed him Bill’s papers. They agreed to deliver
them to Dr. Livesy who was a magistrate as well as a doctor.

7 Dr. Livesy read the papers and said they might have been a clue as to where Flint buried
his treasure. He suggested that they should have taken a boat from Bristol to find the
treasure themselves. Dr. Livesy and his friend Mr. Trelawney began to prepare for a
voyage to find the treasure. They agreed to take Jim with them.

8 Mr. Trelawney found a ship called Hispaniola which was owned by a good man called
Blandly. He also found a good cook for the ship called Long John Silver, who had lost a
leg but was a good cook. Long John Silver came with a crew for the ship. Mr. Trelawney
wasn’t a secretive man because he told the whole crew about the treasure. Jim was
surprised of his behavior.

9 Before Jim left for Bristol with Redruth, the servant of Mr. Trelawney, he went to say
goodbye to his mother in the inn. When he arrived in Bristol, he took a message from Mr.
Trelawney to Silver the ship cook who owned an inn. He saw there Black Dog who ran
away before they could catch him.

10 Later, they met Smollett who was the ship captain. He was not happy with the ship crew.
He said that it was dangerous that all of them knew everything about the treasure. He
advised them to be careful. He told Mr. Trelawney to keep guns with him and never
show the treasure map to anyone.

they could trust unlike the ship captain Smollett. Jim was happy with Silver who was loved
by all the ship crew. He was a good cook and his kitchen was always clean. He told Jim about
his travels. Jim spent a good time with Silver and his parrot which was called Captain.

5 Jim and his mother were afraid of the dangerous people who asked about Bill. When they
were in their way to the village again to hide there, Jim saw some men including Black
Dog and the blind man. It seemed that they wanted the papers that Bill had in his box.
When they discovered that the papers disappeared, they began to look for Jim and his
mother.

some men on horses came suddenly. Those men were the police. Jim and his mother were

6 Jim began to run and hide from Silver and his men. He saw a strange man who told him
that he lived on the island years ago when his ship left him. This strange man was called
Ben Gun. He said that he was a rich man and asked Jim about captain Flint. Jim thought

7 Ben Gun told Jim that he was one of Flint’s men. Flint hid the treasure in a secret place on
the island and refused to tell them about its place. One day, Ben Gun came to the island

Gun alone on the island. On the other hand, Jim told Ben Gun everything. Both of them
agreed to help each other and work against Silver and his men.
