This project is also in perfect alignment with the goals of the DepEd’s K-12
curriculum, which emphasizes Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and
encourages learning by doing. By creating a school garden, students gain hands-on
experience in caring for the environment, growing food, and understanding the
importance of local, organic produce.
But the benefits of this initiative go beyond the classroom. It empowers students to
become self-sufficient, teaching them the skills to grow their own food. It also
strengthens ties with the community by partnering with local government units and
agricultural agencies. In doing so, it addresses larger national challenges like climate
change, environmental sustainability, and food insecurity.
