Some people believe that the primary purpose of museums is to entertain people, while others believe their

purpose is to educate.

Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

With developments in tourism industry, museum visits have become increasingly popular among people,
particularly in developed countries. There is a view that museums largely prioritize keeping individuals
entertained. However, others argue that the main goal of museums is to improve people’s knowledge about the
past. I agree with the latter point of view.

There are two chief reasons why some think that the primary reason behind museum visits is entertainment.
First, museums provide a great opportunity for families and friends to visit and enjoy each other’s company. As
the vast majority of people who live in today’s world have a hectic schedule due to their work and studies, it can
be challenging for them to join their friends and families. In this case, museums can be the primary reason to
encourage them to visit and spend quality time together with their loved ones, fostering their relationships.
Second, one effective way to make some creative videos is by visiting museum areas. In other words, a large
number of museums tend to have spectacular designs and architecture, which allows individuals, especially video
creators, to capture videos with scenic views and historical backgrounds. If it were not for museums, individuals
and photographers would find it incredibly difficult to reunite and take some memorable and meaningful videos.

I, however, would side with those who believe that education is the top priority behind museum visits. This is
primarily because museums indeed help people, irrespective of their age and backgrounds, to acquire valuable
information about their ancestors like how they lived and tackled serious problems, what they valued the most,
what positive qualities they had, what types of activities they got involved and many more, improving their
understanding about the past. Some of the detailed information about the early ancestors’ lives in museums can
spark visitors’ curiosity and urge them to take pride in their origin. Furthermore, young people can become aware
of the consequences of various actions in the past and could be more likely not to make them in the long run,
preventing some setbacks from happening.

In conclusion, even though museums sometimes may serve as a source of entertainment by assisting individuals
to connect with their families and friends and providing photographers to capture some videos with impressive
backgrounds, I strongly believe that for the most part, museums play a significant role in broadening people’s
horizons and making youngsters aware of the mistakes made in the past.
