Basketball is one of the most popular and
exciting team sports in the world. Played
by two teams of five players each, the
game involves using a basketball to score
points by shooting it through the
opponent's hoop or basket. It is known for
its fast pace, teamwork, and thrilling
action. The sport has a global following,
with leagues like the NBA (National
Basketball Association) becoming
internationally renowned.
2. History of Basketball
Basketball was invented in December
1891 by Dr. James Naismith, a physical
education instructor in Springfield,
Massachusetts, USA. Naismith developed
the game as a way to keep his students
active during the winter months. The first
game was played with a soccer ball and
two peach baskets as goals. Over time, the
game evolved and became the modern
sport we know today. Basketball was
introduced in the Olympics in 1936 and
has grown into a global sport with millions
of fans worldwide.
