coefficient of friction app

The instruction manual outlines the procedure for measuring the coefficient of friction using a specific apparatus, including an inclined plane, a frictionless pulley, and weights. It details the aim, required apparatus, theoretical background, and step-by-step procedure for conducting the experiment. An observation table is provided for recording results, with calculations for the limiting coefficient of friction based on the applied weights and normal reactions.

Aim
To find out coefficient of friction between 3 points of a given surface
Apparatus Required
Inclined plane with protractor
Table with frictionless pulley
Wooden block with hook
Weight box
Pan
Thread

Theory
The limiting friction is directly proportional to normal reaction R or the force acting
normally on the surface in contact with each other
Fα R
F= μR
where μ is the limiting coefficient of friction

Procedure
1st reading
 Keep the wooden block on wooden board.
 Frictionless pulley is attached to wooden block
 Take 50 gm. weiht and placed on wooden block (wt. of block +wt. of applied )
 Take smaller weight on pan and keep to just start wooden block.
 Find weight when block is moved started
2nd Reading
 Placed 100 gm on block weight
 Applied load in pan till just start moved
 Take 3 or more reading
2

Observation Table
Weight of wooden block W = 720 gm.
Scale Pan Weight P = 40 gm.
