a certain group of people or individual based on their race or gender?

E. Discussing new What is your point of view about this issue?

concepts and practicing
new skills #2

Nice answer! Most of the images and advertisements or images

nowadays tackle about the different issues and that is what we are going
to focus on. Whenever you feel like giving a viewpoint about a certain
matter, we should understand the different context of it.

For us to determine the message of an image we must first examine what

image or idea
was used to present the particular viewpoints.

Point of view is the attitude or way of considering a matter. It can also

be the position from which something or someone is observed.

There are certain ways how an image is expressed, here are the
following:

Stereotypes is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea

of a particular type of person or thing. This is the belief that all people
within the same racial, ethnic, or cultural group will act alike and share
the same beliefs and attitudes. Stereotypes
ignore individual identity.

Common Example of Stereotypes:

• Race
One of the most common stereotypes is stereotypes surrounding race. It
is
based on stereotypical assumptions because of one's race, colour, and
ethnicity.

Have you seen some of these in our community?

Can you give us some example?

Thank you for that observation. Regardless of color, people are beautiful
because of their attitude. Our skin does not affect the way our brain
works according to science.

• Gender
The belief that people have about the characteristics of males and
females.
The content of stereotypes varies over cultures and over time. These are
also
some common stereotypes of men and women:

Have you experienced some of this?

Thank you for sharing dear students. We are all aware that we were
created as equal. Women can do things that men do and vice versa.

• Age
Refers to overgeneralized expectations and beliefs about the
characteristics
and traits of individuals on the basis of age.

What is your opinion on this?

▪ Children are playful, naive and attention seeker

▪ Teens are stubborn, happy go lucky and lazy.
▪ Old people are cranky, forgetful and vulnerable

I appreciated your thoughts. Continue doing that and you will be a model
of good thoughts and deeds.
• Culture
Stereotypes also exists about culture in countries. These are often
created about people of specific cultures or races

What will you say to those who people keep on believing to these?

▪ Visayan people as off fashioned (baduy).

Our outfit doesn’t define our capabilities. Nice words dear student.

Now that we are aware of these ideas in giving viewpoints, we must

consider these once we experienced giving viewpoints and opinion.

F. Developing Mastery Flash it!

Examine the still and moving images. Write the type of stereotyping
shown. At the count of ten, be able to lift your white boards up.
