Mathematics 5 Week 5
2. Prism - A prism is made up of two parallel and congruent bases which can be any polygon. A prism is named the
shape of its base. If the base is a triangle, it is called a triangular prism. If it is a pentagon, it is called a pentagonal
prism.
b. Non-polyhedron
1. Cylinder is a solid with congruent Parallel
Circular bases connected by a curved surface.
2. Cone is a solid with a circular base connected by a 3. Sphere is a set of point’s space that are the same
curved surface to a single vertex distance from a given point. A sphere has no faces,
edges, or vertices.
.
MAKING MODELS OF THE DIFFERENT SOLID FIGURES
• To make a solid figure, we have to make a net.
• A net is all the surfaces of a solid figure laid out flat.
These are the following nets of the solid figures
Directions: Identify the solid figure represented by the following. Write your
answers on a sheet of paper.
1. Ball ____________________ 6. Book ____________________
2. Dice ____________________ 7. Funnel ____________________
3. Globe ____________________ 8. Refrigerator ____________________
4. Traffic cones ____________________ 9. Tent ____________________
5. Test tube ____________________ 10. Tin can ____________________
Directions: Fill in the blanks. Choose your answer inside the parenthesis and
write it on a sheet of paper.
1. ________________ (Cone, Cylinder) has two circular faces but also no edges and vertices.
2. ________________ (Cube, Rectangular prism) contained six equal squares.
3. ________________ (Pyramid, Sphere) is a solid figures that has no faces, vertices and edges. It
has also no flat sides.
4. ________________ (Cone, Cube) has no faces but its face is in the shape of the circle.
5. ________________ (Pyramid, Rectangular Prism) can have any number of faces, but at least
two of them must be parallel.
Directions: Identify the solid figure for each object by matching column A to column B.
