My On-The-Job Training Experience

I. Introduction

One method of enhancing and enriching the skills of students is through on-the-job

training. It is the beginning of the greatest educational experience that a student will

encounter. It is one way of developing their sense of responsibility upon being given the

task by their supervisors and the rest of the office staff. It is also the time for a student to

develop the desirable traits of a future office worker. It is the opportunity to develop

attitudes, skills and understanding that is necessary in the field of business

administration, particularly in marketing.

OJT should not be taken for granted because it is important. It will help the trainee in

their future career. Nowadays, the competition is tight for job seekers, and high

qualifications are required by companies. That’s why student trainees should have a good

performance during their OJT.

II. Company Profile

Padre Garcia, then known as LumangBayan or Sambat, is formerly part of Rosario,

Batangas. It became an autonomous municipality in 1949 through Executive Order 279

by President Elpidio Quirino, and recognized Jose A. Pesigan and Rustico K. Recto as

the first elected mayor and vice mayor of the municipality, respectively. The name of the

town is derived from one of its most famous sons, Padre Vicente Garcia, a native of

Barangas Maugat. Vicente was friends with Jose Rizal, Philippine National Hero, and

sternly fought for the Philippines’ independence from Spain.

In 1952, the town council founded the cattle market or bakahan. This was in direct

competition with the established livestock market of neighboring Rosario, but the

bakahan flourished and developed into the biggest livestock auction market in Southern

Tagalog and consequently as the “Cattle Trading Capital of the Philippines.”

III. Practicum Experiences

In 400 hours, I’ve learned a lot of things. When it’s your first time, you always

feel anxious and shy. I have a lot on my mind for a variety of reasons. As a result, I am

unfamiliar with the task and lack any relevant experience that initially made me mute.

Trying to learn from the employee how to get along with them. Since I’ve been an intern
for about two months, one of the most challenging I’ve encountered was how to prove

myself that I’m doing my job to both of my supervisor and coworkers.

I started my on-the-job training in the Municipality of Padre Garcia (Municipal

Treasurer’s Office) on September 2, 2024. Ms. Rose Ann Veyra, as the HR Staff, gave

me a brief orientation regarding my 400-hour practicum under the Municipal Treasurer

Office, where I will be handled by Sir. Ronnie J. Bolaños, the Municipal Treasurer. In the

MTO, I was welcomed and given a brief introduction. He informed me on the obligations

and duties that I had been given as their student trainee. I’ve been learning values that

will aid me in creating a more promising future ever since I began my on-the-job training,

or “internship,” as it is more often known.

IV. Accomplishments and Contributions

My accomplishments and contribution from my practicum to the Municipal

Treasurer-Business Permit and Licensing Office includes bringing vouchers and

documents to other department, financial statement record, recording on ledgers,

accompanying staff to COA in submitting important documents, accompanying staff in

withdrawing money at Landbank, assisting clients on the front desk, assisting clients for

the renewal of business permit, filling of all documents for renewal, releasing completed

business permit and photocopying requirements for renewal.

V. Competencies Gained and Learning Experience

I was able to learn how to accept small or big mistakes. In this practicum, I’ve

learned how to face the real world and talk to different people such as high officials,

different department heads and even business owners. I also learned how important time

management is in this practicum. I take it as a challenge to improve more and move

forward instead of pushing myself backwards. From the moment I set my feet on this

place, I knew that I would learn new things regarding the possible work that I would be

doing in the company. Making connections with my coworkers was the best thing I

learned. I need to communicate with them and feel that we’re just one big family. The

moment they share stories and talk while we eat together. I was welcome even though

I’m just a beginner in working as an intern only.

VI. Impact to Field of Specialization

My work experience at the Municipal Treasurer Office inspired me to become a

better person, a more successful businesswoman and a better student of management

accountancy. The impact on my field of specialization was that it helped me realize the

important role of managing financial records and basically money in ensuring the

stability, profitability and survival of a company. I also learned to be punctual, to be

respectful, especially to those in higher position, to socialize and build a harmonious

relationship with other employees, to persevere and be patient, to be cautious in all the

work that I do, to be humble and always eager to learn, and many more.

VII. Conclusion

For me, the On-the-Job Training (OJT) program is an excellent opportunity to gain

exposure to the real world. It serves as preparation and practice for life after college,

allowing us to face reality, interact with professionals, and take tasks seriously. Although

challenging, this OJT experience has been fulfilling and has provided a chance for

personal growth and skill development. It offers an avenue to gain new knowledge,

experience, and independence, which is essential in standing on your own without relying

on others. Becoming the best version of yourself means overcoming failures, rejections,

and doubts from those who may not believe in you. Confidence, which stems from freely

expressing oneself, boosts belief in one’s abilities and fosters positivity, focus, and a

willingness to take risks. Ultimately, proving oneself through action and stepping out of

one’s comfort zone is crucial. Life can become monotonous if you remain stagnant, so it

is important to try new things and embrace personal growth. We should not be afraid to

reveal our true selves, as everyone is unique in their own way.
