6. How EWM System will receive master data from S/4 HANA or ECC?
Answer : CIF
7. What is CIF ?
Answer : CIF is the interface that enables the Master data to be transferred from ECC
to EWM server.
8. How system will exchange the Transactional Data between ECC and EWM server?
Answer : QRFC (Remote Function Call)
2
14. Please specify the difference between Centralised and Decentralised system in EWM.
Ans: SAP ECC and EWM combined or embedded in one server is centralised EWM
system.
SAP ECC and EWM in separate server is called decentralised system.
Both deployment options allow users to add new functionality over time and utilize
SAP transactional data, document types and master data. However, there are several
differences between them:
• Scalability: Embedded EWM connects to one SAP ERP or SAP S/HANA system.
Decentralized EWM can integrate with multiple SAP ERP systems at a single or
multiple locations. Warehouses may also use a decentralized deployment model
during a transition from SAP ECC to SAP S/4HANA until all custom legacy
applications are modernized and transitioned.
• Integration: Technically, embedded EWM allows for easier integrations with
production planning and S/4HANA and a simplified system footprint. However,
integration with warehouse automation systems is a driver of decentralized EWM.
• Simplicity: With embedded EWM, partner data, material master data, and batch
master data don’t have to be replicated because they exist in SAP S/4HANA. It also
eliminates the Expected Goods Receipt (EGR) document because SAP S/4HANA can
read that data directly.
• Agility: Decentralized EWM gives more flexibility to upgrade and add functionality
independently from SAP’s roadmap.
• Uptime: If a warehouse operates around the clock, 365 days per year, and has a high-
volume operation on the order of hundreds of thousands of units per day,
decentralized EWM is likely the better choice. It can keep the warehouse running even
if the ERP system is down.
17. Version of De-Centraliesed and Centralised EWM on which you have worked.
18. How do we integrate documents for Inbound and Outbound process in EWM?
In Interface we link, ECC Document Type + Item Category
to EWM Document Type + Item Category
3
20. What are different types of Storage Types and specify standard storage types EWM.
Types of Storage Types are:
1. High Rack Storage Area - 0020
2. Bulk Storage Area - 0040
3. Fixed Bin Storage Area -
4. General Storage Area -
5. Pallet Sotrage Area - 0070
6. Deconsolidation - 8010
7. GR Staging Zone - 9010
8. GI Area - 9020
23. What is the difference between SAP Mat1 and SAP APO Mat1 ?
Ans: SAP APO Mat1 is used by SAP APO Module, SAP Mat1 is used by SAP EWM.
24. Why Storage Section is not mandatory in EWM & mandatory in WM.
25. What are the ticketing tools you have come across?
4
Warehouse Process Types (WPT)
1. What is WPT?
Ans: WPT is used to determine the nature of goods movement happening in the WH
such as Put away, Stock removal, posting change and internal stock transfer or it acts
as a Internal Movement.
2. How do we configure WPT?
Ans: SCM EWM_EWM_Cross process settings_WT
1. Define WPT
2. Define Control Indicator for determining WPT
3. Determine WPT
3. Different types of WPT is SAP EWM.
1. Put away - 1010 6. Scrapping - 4020
2. Deconsolidation - 1011 7. ADOC movement - 9999
3. Stock removal - 2010 8. Physical Inventory –
4. Replanishment - 3010 9. Cross Line Put away –
5. Posting Change - 4010
5
5. What is Capacity Check?
Capacity check is used to determine the specific capacity of the storage bin to receive
the given number of Handling Unit or Weight, Volume, Quantity of a given product.
The storge type search sequence has got a list of Storage Types, which needs to be
searched.
Once system finds the Storage Type, it goes and Checks for the Put away rule and
Storage behaviour to determine the Storage bin.
Door Determination
Exception Code
Ex.: When we need to change the storage bin during WH order confirmation, we can
do by using exception code. i.e., CHBD
Process Code
Process code is used to adjust the delivery qnty of each item like over delivery, under
delivery, confirmation, rejection.
I001 = with Qnty adjust (1. In EWM Qnty will change but not updated at ERP VL33N
I002 = it is same as I001, but in decentralized it creates New Delivery for balance Qnty
6
Pallet Storage
B. In case of Pallet Storage type, the storage bin further broken into sections.
Bulk Storage
Bulk products which require a large amount of storage space are usually stored in
bulk storage. Bulk storage is always on the floor. We define the structure through stack and
height.
Bulk products which require large amounts for storage spaces are usually stored in
bulk storage.
Bulk storage is always on floor. We define the structures through stack and height.
7
WH Creation
It has got WH address, time zone, business attributes like doors, shipping office, GR
office, WH, Inventory management etc.
4. Create EWM WH
7. Assign EWM WH no to the combination of Plant & St. Loc & Availability Group.
1. When you create IBD for the combination of Plant & St. Loc, the system checks for
WH no assignment.
3. What is BP configuration?
Cross application components + SAP Business Partners + Basic Setting + Business Partners
Role
5. What is Custodian?
Custodian is only the holder of stock who maintain effective position of the stock
8
7. How does the document distributed to EWM?
Linking to EWM
1. When you create IBD for the combination of Plant & St. Loc, the system checks for
WH no assignment
2. When it finds the ERP WH no., it checks whether the WH no is local or EWM
The distribution module controls the data exchange between the sender and receiver
system.
The distribution module consists of individual module views in which you can define
all the cross system integrated message flow of your organisation.
(or)
The distribution module is used to transfer objects from SAP ERP to SAP EWM
system.
Availability Group
The availability group determines the stock type and st. loc of the ERP system.
3. If there are multiple stock from diff plant to single EWM WH, how to identify the plant for
which stock is received?
4. Can we define multiple stock types and availability group in EWM? Yes
There are several types of HU like Boxes, Cartons, Pallets, Containers, Crates, Wire
Brackets etc.
9
Bubble wrap, Cardboard boxes, Corrugated Boxes, Shrink Wrap, Cling film, Pallets,
Jute bags, Galls, Containers.
In ECC,
3. HU type configuration
In EWM,
Internal Movement
10
3. What are the Transactions used for Internal Movement (or) how do you move the Product
or HU?
/SCWM/ADPROD
/SCWM/ADHU
/SCWM/POST
6. If we need to move stock from one bin to another bin how can we do?
Posting Change
The primary use of WOCR is to optimize the process of picking and put away &
Internal Movement in WH.
2. What are the rules defines for WH Creation rule? What are the parameters considered in
WOCR?
a. Sorting Rule
b. Filter
c. Limit Parameter
d. Packing Profile
4. When we don’t have WOCR, how the system will apply WOCR?
11
Activity Area
1. What is Activity Area? How to setup the Activity Area?
Activity Area is a storage type where activities will be done such as Put away, Physical
Inventory, Replenishment, Deconsolidation etc.
AA setup,
Bin Sorting is the final step in the assessment of a bin to Activity Area and activity.
(or)
Bin Sorting is needed to work with Activity Area in EWM. This allows WH Task to be
sorted which is needed during WH Order Creation. T-Code : /SCWM/SBST
Scrapping
1. WPT for Scrapping?
2. Scrapping Process
a. Need to be posting change of Stock movement from F2 to S6 with the WPT 4020
and St Type 8040 (Scrap zone)
b. Then Post the Unplanned Good Issue (GI) in ADOC i.e., with the T-Code ADGI
12
PackSpec
1. What is Packspec? How do you upload packspec in EWM?
2. If a system need to create HU, How do you do that? …by using Packspec
3. Where and How Auto HU will be created? …through Packspec & its configuration
7. Configuration of Packspec
1. Level type
2. Element type
3. Level set
Work Centre is a physical unit in the WH in which you can perform WH activities such
as Packing, Deconsolidation, Consolidation, Quality Inspection etc.
Work Centre Layout controls the feature and functionality of Work Centre. DKMX
Layout
13
3. What is storage control?
Ex.: If Supplier send two or more materials in a single HU but those materials need to
be stored in different storage type, at that time those materials are taken for
deconsolidation work centre 8010 where single HU will be broken into two or more
HU and moved to its destination storage type.
In case of LOSC, the HU should go through intermediate st. type before it reaches the
dest. St. type.
Ex.: Lift
HU will move from 9010 to intermediate St. Type for an example 0081 i.e., nothing
but lift. The HU will reach the other end of lift of St. Type 0081 then putaway will be
done by 0081(Lift) to destination St. Type.
Step 1
Define External steps and assign that external step to internal step
Step 3
Determine WPT
14
9. How POSC will be triggered in inbound and outbound side?
Inbound side – Storage process will be assigned to WPT. So, from WPT system goes
and triggers the Storage type.
Outbound side – Storage process will be assigned to WOCR. Basically, this WOCR is
assigned to WPT and that will be triggered to stock removal where storage type is
assigned.
If Suppliers send two or more product in a single HU but that product has allocated
for different storage type and here the deconsolidation function can be used for
dividing the HU into different handling unit for each product based on their storage
behaviour and moved for its destination storage type and storage bin.
When you don’t want to enter destination storage type in POSC then select RB
Indicator
Can’t be created but we can create external step & then can assign to internal step.
15
Que & Resource Management
1. How Queue will be determined?
Based on WH no + Source Activity Area + Destination Activity Area + Bin Access Type
+ WPT + Activity = Que
Bin Access Type in SAP has control over the stock in the Bin that can be accessed by
the resource value as per resource type.
“Resources represent user or equipment which can explore the work in the WH.”
T-Codes
Login to RF /SCWM/RFUI
The process of combining different task by interleaving them on a single trip with in
the WH
(or)
Ex. Forklift should not return empty after doing put away instead while returning
forklift should carry picking WH task which should carry some required materials for
its destination.
(or)
After doing any task, forklift should not come back empty, instead any other task
should be assigned to perform.
16
VAS
1. What is VAS?
VAS is a Value Added Service by which it adds a value to the product like auxiliary
material etc.
Step 1
Step 2
Step 3
Step 4
Step 5
VAS is a Value Added Services where we add Value to the Product such as Auxiliary
Materials.
Ex.: When a supplier sends material with HU and those materials need to add auxiliary
materials as that we go for VAS Process.
❖ When Material is unloaded at 9010 GR-Zone and those materials will be taken over
to VAS work centre.
❖ Where there will be auxiliary material will be added to it and storage type is 8050
❖ The material will be triggered by VAS WPT where that is assigned in WPM
17
❖ After consuming auxiliary material, the stock will get reduced for auxiliary material
in both ECC and EWM (which will happen from WPM where we need to tick the
check box for VAS Consumption)
❖ Then those products are moved for its destination storage type and storage bin.
Outbound
1. What are Outbound Strategies?
Sl No Inbound Outbound
Here GR will be done first and then Put Here Picking WH Task will be created first
1
away WH Task will be created and then GI will be done
2 Standard WPT for Put away is 1010 Standard WPT for Stock removal is 2010
There is no Wave Management in
3 Here we got Wave Management
Inbound
Standard Storage Type for inbound Standard Storage Type for outbound
4
staging area is 9010 GR-Zone staging area is 9020 GI-Zone
Wave Management
1. What is Wave Management?
In Outbound, we can combine the WH request order item and can split WH item into
Waves based on the criteria such as activity area, product, region, route.
It is a master data & maintain the types of Waves which can be released.
No
Wave Category Ex.: Based on region. i.e., Asia, Europe, Australia etc.
18
Outbound POSC
1. Explain Outbound POSC.
Outbound POSC is used for complex outbound process in EWM which involves
Picking, Packing & Staging.
Ex.: When Customer order for 2 or more product and those products are packed in a
single HU but those products are in different storage type, those products are
brought to work centre and packed together with a single HU and delivers to
customer.
19
Batch Management
1. What is batch management?
Batch management is used to capture the important details of products that are
perishable in nature which have a certain self-life after which they must be recycled or
returned to dispose.
1. Client level
2. Plant level
3. Material level
Replenishment
1. What is Replenishment?
Replenishment is used when you want to move the stock from reserve stock area to
picking area that is closer to staging area which will be easy to do picking process.
1. Planned Replenishment
2. Order Replenishment
4. Direct Replenishment
5. Automatic Replenishment
Planned replenishment (where Minimum and Maximum Qnty will be taken places)
20
Cross Docking
1. What is Cross Docking?
Cross Docking is the process when you want to transfer the product or HU from GR
Zone without put away occurring in between we will use cross docking to perform
this.
- need to activate & adjust EWM triggered OCD for both Inbound & Outbound
Basically, what we did is we allocated separate door for cross docking and with this
cross-docking work can be done.
It is unplanned cross docking where it works only in EWM. Doesn’t need other SAP system.
7. What is BADI’s?
PPF
1. What is PPF?
The Post Processing Framework (PPF) is a SAP basis technology used in Delivery
Processing for scheduling and processing actions with reference to a document.
2. What is PPF structure? / How does PPF functions? / How PPF works?
21
Physical Inventory
1. What is Physical Inventory?
In customizing, you define the cycle counting indicator codes with an interval
(in workdays) after which a new physical inventory should be performed.
* Then we need to do Different Analyzer which can be able to match the stock both in
SAP ECC and EWM. T-Code - /SCWM/DIFF_ANALYZER
After Physical stock process completed the stock will be corrected in EWM system by
posting PI process. But it should be updated in ECC so for that we need to do Diff
Analyzers with the T-Code /SCWM/DIFF_ANALYZER
5. How do you check ERP stock in EWM? With the T-Code /SCWM/ERP_STOCKCHECK
8. What is the difference between Cycle Count and without Cycle count.
22
Job Management
1. T-Codes for Job Management
Labor Management
1. What is Labor Management?
Labor Management helps you plan labor time and resources in the warehouse more
effectively thereby making the warehouse more productive.
We use this function to define the time that is required to execute an activity in the
warehouse.
1) at WH Number level
23
Serial Number
1. What is Serial Number?
Serial Number is the unique number assigned to each quantity of the product 123
2. WM execution view in MM
Ex- when we are importing meat from another country during in-transit the product
will loose its weight this is managed by catch weight management.
/SCWM/SLOT
/SCWM/REAR
Slotting is a process where the system suggests where the product needs to be
stored.
Ex- In the rainy season the umbrella will be in demand and need to be stored where
we can Pick easily
And in summar season those umbrella need to be stored in some corner as it will not
be in demand.
3. What is re-arrangement?
In the transaction based on slotting done in the previous step, system will create WT
to move the stock from existing storage type to “slow moving storage type”.
“Planned Put away control indicator” & “planned stock removal indicator” uploaded
by Slotting.
24
EWM & QM Integration
1. How EWM & QM Integration will work?
(2) Create PO
(6) HU Moved from GR-Zone to Quality work centre where we need to work
on inspection lot
Note: Quality Inspection view will not be selected in Material Master Record.
a. Pick Part
b. Create Part
25
(2) Release Order Part
In Production Supply Area we define where the material should be used in Production Line.
(9) Post GR
26
TU & Yard Management
1. What is Yard Management?
The Yard is where you maintain vehicles and transportation units that arrive or depart.
Shipment has got more than One Delivery, Delivery has HU, HU is with Packaging
Material & Product.
4. Where to link Packaging Material & Means of Transport(Road, Sea & Air) /SCWM/PM_MTR
Step 1
(2) This Shipment will be allocated one delivery or more than one delivery
(6) You can see the TU which is assigned to delivery in /SCWM/PRDI in TU tab.
Step 2
(1) If yard management is active, then the truck will check in through /SCWM/CICO
(3) In case of inbound GR and unloading will happen in case of outbound loading and
GI will be done
(4) The truck will be departure from checking point T-Code - /SCWM/CICO
27
9. What is Yard Structure?
Storage Type + Storage Section like Check point, Parking area & door are created (as
section under storage type & storage section and bins are created)
1) In define storage type node, define storage type with role-G i.e., Yard
2) In Yard, we define different sections (areas) like check points, door, parking area
13. What is the storage behaviour of Yard? always Next Empty Bin
IDOC
1. What is IDOC & where we use IDOC in SAP?
3. What are the different message types or IDoC types which have come across?
5) SHPMNT – Shipment
28
5. What does IDOC contains?
- Message type
- Outbound
- Inbound
2) Data Record [is the Data which need to send/receive through Data Record]
- Field Name
- Field Content
3) Status Record
- Results – Success/Failure
MFS helps to connect automatic WH to SAP EWM without the need for an additional
warehouse control unit.
