05 - Day Faculty Development Programme


on
Outcome-Based Education
(1st, 2nd, 3rd, 11th February, 11th March, 2023)

About the FDP on Outcome-Based Education:


5 - Day Faculty Development Programme was organized on Outcome-based Education from 1st, 2nd, 3rd,
11th February and 11th March, 2023 in the Auditorium, Presidency University. The objective of this faculty
development programme is to nurture the philosophy of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) and build the
capacity and competencies of the faculty members in the teaching-learning system and other Academic
Process of the University. The development and implementation of good academic processes in an
institutionalized manner by involving all stakeholders for continuous improvement are paramount in
assuring the quality of the programmes.

The FDP has been conducted with sufficient discussions, deliberations in a case study approach, and
provides a hands-on experience on re-engineering or fine-tuning the academic processes that improves
the quality of the outcome education. Highly renowned professionals from academia and industry were
invited to enlighten the participants on various areas.

OBE Day 1: 1st February, 2023


The 5-day Faculty Development Program on Outcome Based Education commenced on February 1st, at
10:30am, with an inaugural ceremony in the presence of Dr. S. Baskar, BOYSCAT Fellow, Dean (R &D),
Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai (Resource Person), Dr. AM Surendrakumar, Pro-Vice
Chancellor (Academics), Dr. Muddu Vinay, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Management), Dr. Shilpa Mehta, Dean
Academics and other dignitaries. The dignitaries officially inaugurated the FDP with lighting of the lamp.
The welcome address was given by the Program coordinator Dr. SR Sudheendra, Dy. COE, Presidency
University.

The Program coordinator officially welcomed the gathering, the speakers, faculty members and the
dignitaries. The chief guest cum Resource person Dr. S. Baskar, BOYSCAT Fellow, Dean (R &D), Thiagarajar
College of Engineering, Madurai was introduced. The Chief Guest addressed the participants on OBE
Specialist on Introduction to Outcome Based Education, Key parameters of OBE, Vision, Mission and
PEO's/GA/POs/PSOs, Revised Blooms Taxonomy in Cognitive domain and Articulation of COs, CO-PO
mapping, Role of Blooms Taxonomy in Teaching and Learning. The speaker gave presentation on the
process and the basis for the framing of the course outcomes for the different subjects. A neat and
detailed presentation was also explained to the participants on the mapping process of the course
outcomes and program outcomes.

OBE Day 2: 2nd February, 2023


The Hands-on sessions has conducted by Dr. Bhaskar (Resource Person) in the classrooms Department-
wise continuation. He has made all the faculty members to prepare the CO and PO for their courses. He
also explained about Questions Design to Measure COs, CO-PO Attainment Computation and Outcomes
Analysis, Use of Technology for CO-PO Attainment Computation and Outcomes Analysis and Improving
Employability Outcomes. The process of designing the curriculum to obtaining the appropriate outcome
based education has discussed in detail with the active participation of the participants. The secession
was interactive with the audience taking an active part in understanding the process to be undertaken.
OBE Day 3: 3rd February, 2023
The day 3 sessions was taken by Dr. S. Baskar, BOYSCAT Fellow, Dean (R &D), Thiagarajar College of
Engineering, Madurai. The speaker also gave a presentation on the process of attainment of program
outcome and program specific outcomes and the method of calculating the PEOs, GA, POs and PSO’s were
neatly explained. Work sheets were also given for calculating the same which the participants were able
to take part in. detailed explanations were given by the speaker to all the queries made by the participants.
Active physical participation was also given to the participants for understanding the rubrics for OBE. The
interaction was lively with audience interacting with the speaker and the day 3 sessions was made lively
through real time examples.

OBE Day 4: 11th February, 2023


The Resource person Mr. Chaitanya Kumbhar, Inpods was introduced. He gave talk on the basic need for
outcome based education, its importance and significance. He has explained how to find CO attainment
and PO attainment in the Inpods. The hands-on sessions has been conducted in the afternoon session to
make faculty understand the process. The secession was lively with active audience interaction with the
speaker.
OBE Day 5: 11th March, 2023
The OBE attainment with software discussion done on 5th day by Dr. Shilpa Mehta, Dean Academics and
Dr. SR Sudheendra, Dy. COE. The excel templates for lab components and continual assessment have been
shared to all the faculty members. The hand-on sessions has been conducted to make faculty members
to understand the process.
The Valedictory function was held at Auditorium, Presidency University on 11th March, 2023 from 04:00
PM to 04:30 PM. The program was presided over by the program coordinator Dr. SR Sudheendra, Dy. COE,
Presidency University. The valedictory function was also attended by Dr. AM Surendrakumar, Pro-Vice
Chancellor, Presidency University, Dr. Shilpa Mehta, Dean Academics, Deans/HoDs. Among others who
attended the Valedictory function were the distinguished resource persons, faculty members of
Presidency University and invitees. The welcome and overview of the 5 day Faculty development program
was given by the program coordinator, Dr. SR Sudheendra. Subsequent to which the e-certificates were
sent to the participants on successful completion of the FDP.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
Presidency University, a leader in the field of Higher Education has taken the initiative to increase
and improve faculty standards across all levels, especially in the area of 'Outcome-BasedTeaching
Learning Methods and Research'.

During the present Covid-19 pandemic situation also Presidency University has been at the forefront

QS I-Gauge E-Lead Certificate for excellence in online education.

In the pursuit of academic excellence, Presidency University is proposing to conduct a Faculty


Development Programme (FDP) on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) from 12th - - 18th August 2022
for the benefit of university faculty and other stakeholders.

As the Outcome-based Education embraces each part of the education system, it involves a
restructuring of curriculum, assessment and reporting practices in education to help achieve higher
order-thinking and cognitive skills as laid down in the National Education Policy-2020.
