KMNV Web 2.1 offers major enhancements over earlier versions of KMNV Web Edition:

1. 1,500 + Device Discovery – Earlier versions of the KMNV Web were limited to the number of devices that
could be discovered. With considerations for Server and Network performance, KMNV Web Edition 2.1 can
support 1,500 + devices.
2. Run as a Service - In earlier versions, KMNV Web ran as an application, requiring the user to remain logged
in to the server in order to keep the application running. If the user were to log out of the server, the
application would be automatically terminated. KMNV Web 2.1 has been designed to run as a service on a
server, which means it can be automatically started at server boot-up and remain running without user
intervention (logged in to server).
3. Firebird Database – This package comes with two installers, one to install a Firebird Database and the
other to install KMNV Web Edition. The Firebird Database must be installed before installing KMNV Web.
The Firebird Database stores KMNV Web Device, Network, and E-Mail receipient information and is
unaffected by KMNV Web install or uninstall. Because Firebird is an ODBC compliant database, it and its
contents can be accessed using an ODBC driver to pull device information for reporting purposes.
4. Firmware Upgrades - KMNV Web 2.1 introduces firmware upgrade functionality on supported models (see
supported model list). The upgrade may be performed on a single device or a device group. Within a
selected group only models that match the selected firmware file will be upgraded. The KMNV Web client
initiates the firmware upgrade, but once initiated the process runs entirely on KMNV Web server.
Note:There are potential risks when using the KMNV Web Firmware Upgrade Wizard, and the Administrator
must acknowledge that they understand and accept the risk before continuing. Please see section 12 of the
KM NET VIEWER Web Edition 2.1 Administrators Guide for more details on the risks associated with
Firmware Upgrades.

Minimum Server Requirements:

• Pentium III 733 MHz processor

• 520MB Free Hard Disk Space
• 256 MB Memory

Note: The System Requirements stated above are minimum requirements for KMNV Web; although a dedicated
server is not necessary, it is important to consider server performance as the number of managed devices increases.

Server Platform

The following server platforms are supported by KMNV Web:

Windows Linux
(KMNVWeb_Win_0825.exe) (KMNVWeb_RPM_0825.exe)
Windows Server 2003 Red Hat Enterprise Linux ES 3.0

Installation

Two installation packages are provided, one for the Firebird database and one for KMNV Web Edition 2.1 To use an
existing Firebird installation or to change or encrypt the password used to connect to the Firebird database, see
Section 3.5 - Firebird Database in the KM-NET VIEWER Web Edition 2.1 Administrator's Guide.

Note:
The Firebird database must be installed before installing KMNV Web.
1. Double click on the Firebird database installer, e.g. Firebird-1.0.3.972-Win32.exe.
After accepting the license agreement, install Firebird using all the default selections provided by the Firebird
installation wizard.
2. Double click on the KMNV Web installer, KMNVWeb.2.1.xxxx.win.exe:
Follow the instructions in the KMNV Web installation wizard.

User Accounts

By default, KMNV Web Edition 2.1 supports two user accounts, admin and guest. The admin account has all
privileges within KMNV Web while the guest account is restricted to Read Only. In addition, the administrative menu
options and pages are not available to the guest account.

The default user name for Administrative Level Access is admin and the password is public.
The default user name for the Guest or User Level Access is guest and the password is guest.

As a basic security precaution it is highly recommended to change the default admin password. The admin account
password is changed by selecting Change Password from the Tools menu in KMNV Web Edition 2.1.

Client Platform

Because KMNV Web edition is web based, access to it can be done from any client PC connected to the network
serviced by the KMNV Web Server. The following are the minimum Client platform requirements.

• Java enabled Web Browser with minimum JRE plug-in 1.4.2_x (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html ).
• Cookies must be enabled on the Web Browser for access to the System Administration pages.
• Web Browser Pop Ups need to be allowed for the KMNV Web Server.
• Internet Explorer 6 or higher
• Netscape 7.2 or higher
• Mozilla 1.7 or higher

Additional client platform and access information is available in Section 4 – Client Access (Pg.13) of the KM-NET
VIEWER Web Edition 2.1 Administrator’s Guide.

Client Access

The KMNV Web 2.1 client is a Java applet which is run in a compatible browser. See Client Platform Support for
supported browsers and JRE requirements. The applet is initiated by a successful login to the KMNV Web 2.1
server. The KMNV Web login page is displayed by entering the following URL in the browser address bar:

http://<name or ip address>:9090

For example, if the server name is kmnvweb and IP address is 192.168.1.5, either of the following URLs could be
used to display the login page:

http://kmnvweb:9090
or

http://192.168.1.5:9090
Note: 9090 is the default port for KMNV Web Edition 2.1.

Firmware Upgrade Supported Model List

KMNV Web 2.1 introduces firmware upgrade functionality on supported models (see supported model list below).
The upgrade may be performed on a single device or device group. While the KMNV Web Client initiates the
firmware upgrade, the process is actually run on the KMNV Web 2.1 server.

Print System Fax Network Interface

FS-3820N KM-1650 KM-6030 KM-1820 IB-20/21
FS-3830N KM-1820 KM-8030 IB-21E
FS-C5020N KM-2050 IB-22
FS-C5030N KM-2550

There are some risks associated with using the KMNV Web 2.1 Firmware Upgrade feature. Additional firmware
upgrade information is available in Section 12 – Firmware Upgrade (Pg.52) of the KM-NET VIEWER Web Edition
2.1 Administrator’s Guide.

Device Characteristics related to Firmware Upgrade using KMNV Web 2.1:

• The IB-20/IB-21 require the device to be restarted after a firmware upgrade. The restart may be done from
the embedded web page of the IB-20/21 or by manual reset.
• The FS-3820N/3830N must be manually reset after the firmware upgrade, if the firmware before the upgrade
is 158.05-002 or lower.
• The following models must be manually reset after firmware upgrade: KM1650, KM2050, KM2550, KM6030,
KM8030.
• After upgrading the print system firmware on a KM1820 with a fax option installed, KMNV Web Edition 2.1
will display the Fax firmware as “N/A”. Resetting the device manually and performing a Refresh in KMNV
Web Edition 2.1 will cause the Fax firmware to be displayed properly.
• Version 1.0.0 of the IB-22 does not support the firmware upgrade method used by KMNV Web Edition 2.1.
• When a firmware file is selected that is not for a supported device, KMNV Web Edition 2.1 will display the
current list of supported devices.

Known Issues and Troubleshooting

• JRE Support -1.4.2_x JRE versions are supported. Some issues have been reported with JRE 1.5 so this
version is not yet officially supported.

• Windows XP SP2 Firewall - In Windows XP SP2 environment, with the default firewall enabled, add the
following programs to the Windows Firewall Exceptions tab: rmiregistry, Apache HTTP server and java.

• Management Dialog Not Displayed - This is related to insufficient permissions in the JRE java policy file. See
Java Policy File Changes below. Text Bar "Java Applet Window" Displayed "Java Applet Window" appears
at the top of dialogs in Linux and at the bottom of dialogs in Windows. This line can be removed by editing
the java.policy file. See Java Policy File Changes below.

o Java Policy File Changes -The java.policy file is found in the lib/security folder of the default JRE
plug in path, for example: C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2\lib\security\ For the Management
dialog issue, add the following line after the last "permission" line in the java policy file: permission
java.io.FilePermission "C:\\Program Files\\Java\\j2re1.4.2\\lib\\rt.jar", "read"; For the "Java Applet
Window" issue, add the following line after the last "permission" line in the java.policy file: permission
java.awt.AWTPermission "showWindowWithoutWarningBanner";

Known Issues and Troubleshooting (continued)

• Error Downloading JRE - If the JRE plug-in is not installed on the system when the client applet is launched
(when first logging in) the user will receive a message to install the JRE plug-in. If this message is confirmed,
the JRE plug-in will be downloaded and installed. In some cases the download or install of the plug-in fails.
As an alternative, the JRE plug-in may be manually downloaded and installed from
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html. If the failure occurred during installation, it is strongly
recommended to completely remove the partially installed version and reboot before installing the manually
downloaded version. Additional note: When the JRE plug-in is manually installed, the Management page
may not open properly without performing the following steps: Go to Control Panel, Java Plug-in. Open the
Advanced tab and select JRE 1.4.2 in the Java Runtime Environment drop down list.

• Database SQL Exception - "SQLException while getting database connection". This error will occur if KMNV
Web Edition 2.1 cannot make a connection to the Firebird database. This can occur when there is an
existing Firebird installation or when the Firebird database is not installed to the default location. Section 3.5
– Firebird Database (pg.10) of the KM-NET VIEWER Web Edition 2.1 Administrator’s Guide.

• Java Plug-in Detected JRE Collision - Java plug-in detects JRE collision when using Netscape 7.2. To solve
this problem, go to Control Panel, Java Plug-in. Open the Advanced tab and select JRE 1.4.2 in the Java
Runtime Environment drop down list. Open the Browser tab and check the Netscape 6 or later checkbox.
Click Apply. Close and reopen all the browser windows and start the KMNV Web Edition 2.1 client.

• Asset Number Blank on Management Page - When the Asset number is set using another utility such as
KMNV Windows or KMNV Web 1.x, it is shown correctly in List View; however, it is blank on the
Management page. If it is set using the KMNV Web 2 Management page, then it will be displayed correctly.

• A password expiration message may be displayed on the login page - Click on the submit button and close
the browser window. Open a new browser window and login again.

• If error notification email is not being received - It could be caused by your anti-virus software blocking port
25. Please check your port blocking rule and add java.exe in the excluded processes list.
