Creating an Infographic: The Influence of Western Literature on Philippine Nationhood

Learning Competency:
Research on the development of Western literature and its impact on Philippine nationhood.

Task Overview:

Western literature has played a significant role in shaping the ideologies, values, and identity of the
Philippine nation. This task aims to explore how various works of Western literature influenced
Philippine society, culture, and nationhood. Students will research key literary movements in Western
history and examine their connection to Philippine nation-building, then present their findings in a well-
structured and visually appealing infographic.

Instructions:

1. Research Phase:

o Research key literary movements in Western literature (e.g., Renaissance,


Enlightenment, Romanticism, Realism, Modernism).

o Identify specific Western literary works or authors (e.g., Shakespeare, Voltaire, Dickens,
etc.) that influenced Filipino writers, thinkers, or movements (e.g., José Rizal,
Propaganda Movement).

o Analyze how these Western works shaped the ideologies of national identity,
independence, and reforms in the Philippines.

2. Infographic Creation:

o Summarize your research findings into a clear, concise, and informative infographic.

o Highlight key Western literary movements, works, or authors and connect them to their
influence on Philippine nationhood.

o Use headings, icons, illustrations, timelines, or diagrams to organize your information.

o Ensure that your infographic is visually engaging while providing accurate information.

3. Tools:

o Use digital tools like Canva, Piktochart, or PowerPoint to create your infographic.

o If working manually, ensure it’s neat and well-organized on a large sheet of paper.

4. Submission Guidelines:

o Infographics can be submitted either digitally or as printed posters.
