ABSTRACT:

The Civil Engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with a planning,
design, construction and maintenance of the basic infrastructures to all human beings. We are
constructing the structures rapidly in the area where there is a requirement of the structures.
Structure is a assemblies of load carrying members which is capable of safely transfer the
superimposed loads to the foundations.Every structure has its own service life.It is designed
by assuming its life of existence. Some of the structures gets collapse in achieving its life and
some of them get more life than expected. But now a days a collapsed mechanism of structure
is increased and it get fail before service life is completed. Therefore,Structural audit that is
the health chekup of whole building is necessary. It gives an idea about the periodic condition
of building and necessary measures taken so that the life of building can be increased. It also
suggest some repair and retrofitting techniques required to extend servicibility of
structure. The structure should be audited timely for the safety of human life as well as for
nearby structures.Structural audit of RCC building is done by visual inspections and NDT
tests.Recently various methods and techniques are used for SHM called as Non Destructive
Evaluation techniques.

INTRODUCTION:

To maintain a well being performance of the infrastructure in each country , the efficient
system for early and regular structural assesement is urgently mandatory. In India a RCC has
been used largely since last 50-60 years because of its high strength-cost ratio. After the
independence a rapid development of urbanization in multistorey infrastructures is seen. The
construction activities in India has been increasing geometrically.

Structural audit was first introduced by Indian society of Structural engineers from 1975.Due
to growth of population and for the purpose of employment ,people migrating from village to
cities so that the population in cities increasing and number of people living in building are
more than the actual design consideration. There are so many old buildings which have
reduced strength due to low quality material, improper techniques used in construction. So that
the chances of failure of building are increased. If further use of such deteriorated structure
is continued it may endanger the lives of ocupants and surrounding habitation. There is a
demand of appropriate actions and remidies for all such structures to improve its performance
and restore the desired functions of structures which may leads to increase its functional life.
The initial stage in repairing process of building is structural audit..It gives an idea about the
critical areas of building, risk areas and it also suggest if any urgent attention is required or
not.Structural audit is done by an experienced and licensed structural consultant.

OBJECTIVES:

1. To ensure periodic condition survey of a building structure so that the

owner/occupiers become aware of its structural condition and they can take timely
action to repair or strengthen to enhance it’s useful life.
2. To identify any sign of material detoriation, structural distress and deformation.
3. To focus on risk, rehabilitation and urgency and enhancing the useful life of building.

PAPER- Structural Audit of RCC Building

SUMMARY- In this paper, author were tried to find out faulty

mechanism in structure to prevent the failure of structure. The authors
carried out the structural auditing of RCC building i.e Vidhata apartment
of G+4 floors which is located at Thane. The age of building was 28 years
and also the weather effect is present. They performed rebound hammer
test, ultrasonic pulse velocity test and carbonation test to check
performance of structural components like beams, slabs, columns, internal
and external walls. They conclude that principle repairs are required at
various levels, all the vegetation should be removed, minor cracks should
be repaired by epoxy or by grouting method, detoriated plaster surface
must be removed and corroded steel must be removed wherever
necessary.

PAPER- Structural Health Monitoring, Audit and Rehabilitation of

Building in Construction Building
SUMMARY- This paper deals with a structural auditing and health
monitoring of RCC building of G+22 floors which is located at Mumbai.
The age of building was 18 years. The building was obsereved flat by
flat. They observed defects like cracks, spells ,seepage ,corrosion
etc. They conduct ultrasonic pulse velocity test. For structural health
monitoring applications, they used capacitance based sensor to detect
micro cracks.Overall study showed defects are due to combined effects
of carbonation, corrosion and effect of continuous drying and wetting.

PAPER- Structural Audit

SUMMARY- This paper deals with a structural auditing of G+4

structure. The age of building was 23 years. In this paper structural
auditing is done on this basis of visual inspection. They found health
rating index and said that the condition of building is fair.

PAPER- Structural Audit, Repair and Rehabilitation of Building.

SUMMARY- This paper studied the present state of structure and major
areas where improvement is needed during its service life stage for
sustainable development and also the method of carrying out repair,
rehabilitation and retrofitting. They carried out the structural auditing of
building G+4 floors which is located at pune. The age of building was 27
years and there is effect of mansoon on building. They was visually
inspected flat by flat. The condition of building appered to be quite bad.
METHODOLOGY:
1) Literature survey supporting to the topic of project.
2) Case study of report G+4 story RCC residential building is studied at
pune.
3) Study the structural plan of building.
4) Studied Visual inspection report of structure .
5) Identification of various problems in structure.
6) Various NDE test is carried out and studied there report.
7) Prepare the Performa B Report of structural auditing as per the norms.
8) Studied the various ammendement act of Maharashtra regarding to
auditing of structure.
