Missing Value in Figure
Practice Exercise 1. (d) : The series is 6561 = 81 × 81, 81 = 9 × 9, 9 = 3 × 3. 2. (b) : The series is 7 × 2 + 2 = 16, then 16 × 2 + 2 = 34, then 34 × 2 + 2 = 70, then 70 × 2 + 2 = 142, So the missing value is 70. 3. (b) : Here, 2 × 5 × 3 = 30, 5 × –1 × 1 = –5. In the similar way 4 × –1 × 3 = –12. 4. (c) : By adding the numbers in the upper quadrants we get the number in the lower right quadrant. So the answer should be 4 + 3 = 7. 5. (b) : The series in the figure is as follows: (2 + 6 + 2 + 3)2 – 1 = 132 – 1 = 168 (3 + 5 + 1 + 2)2 – 1 = 112 – 1 = 120 (2 + 3 + 5 + 4)2 – 1 = 142 – 1 = 195 So, the missing value is 195. 6. (a) : The series is 5 × 4 = 20, 3 × 8 = 24, so 9 × 4 = 36. 7. (b) : The number inside the circle is the sum of the other four numbers. So, the answer is 25 + 50 + 34 + 11 = 120. 8. (b) : The number at the bottom is the difference of the squares of two numbers at the top, i.e.162 – 72 = 207. So, 252 – 212 = 184. 9. (d) : The sum of the two numbers on the top when divided by 2 gives the third number. i.e. 5 + 21 = 26/2 = 13 ; So, 24 + 4 = 28/2 = 14. 10. (b) : The number in the second and the third column are 5 less than the number in 1st and 2nd column respectively. So, 16 – 5 = 11 and 11 – 5 = 6. 11. (a) : The sum of all the three numbers in each line of any figure is same. i.e. 59 + 80 + 20 = 40 + 80 + 39 So, 80 + 10 + ? = 159 ; ? = 69. 12. (b) : Square of the number at the bottom is equal to the product of the two numbers at the top i.e. 6 2 = 4 × 9 and 122 = 9 × 6 ; So, 202 = 16 × x x = 25. 13. (b) : The sum of the products of the digits of numbers in the first and third column is the number in the second column. (5 × 1) + (6 × 1) = 11; (6 × 4) + (3 × 2) = 30 So, (3 × 5) + (4 × 3) = 27. 14. (d) : The sum of the numbers on the right and at the center when subtracted from the number on the left gives the number at the bottom i.e. 93 – (27 + 63) = 3 ; So, 67 – (16 + 42) = 9. 15. (a) : The sum of the numbers in the first and the second column plus 1 is the number in the third column. So, 9 + 2 + 1 = 12. 16. (b) : The number at the bottom is obtained by subtracting the sum of two numbers in the central grid line from the square of the number on the top. i.e. 72 – (2 + 7) = 40 ; 52 – (8 + 3) = 14 ; So, 92 – (7 + 6) = 68. 17. (b) : The number in the centre is obtained by multiplying the number on the left by 2 and then dividing the product by the sum of the digits of the number on the right. i.e. (42 × 2) ÷ (2 + 2) = 21 ; (162 × 2) ÷ (9 + 9) = 18 So, (78 × 2) ÷ (8 + 4) = 13. 18. (c) : The number in the center is the product of all the four numbers minus 10. i.e. 3 × 5 × 2 × 6 – 10 = 170 ; So, 10 × 6 × 7 × 2 – 10 = 830. 19. (d) : The number inside the circle is the product of the difference of two numbers above and difference of two numbers below. i.e. (5 – 3)(12 – 9) = 6; So, (18 – 10)(17 – 14) = 24. www.tissnetprep.com 20. (b) : H is the 8th letter of english alphabet series. By taking the sum of numbers placed vertically outside the circle +8; multiplying it by the number on the right; then subtracting from the product of the number on the left, gives the number inside. i.e. 4 + 8 + 4 = 16; 16 × 5 = 80 ; 80 – 10 = 70 As C is 3rd in order, 2 + 3 + 5 = 10; 10 × 3 = 30 ; 30 – 4 = 26 So, 8 + 10 + 6 = 24; 24 × ? ; (24 × ?) – 6 = 90 So, (24?) = 96. Hence, ? = 96/24 = 4 21. (c) : W – T = 23 – 20 = 3 S – D = 19 – 4 = 15 T – J = 20 – 10 = 10 P – G = 16 – 7 = 9 22. (b) : As M is 13th in the order of english alphabet, so the pattern goes like this. 13 × 2 = (9 × 5) – 19 and B is 2nd in english alphabet, 2 × 9 = (11 × 2) – 4 As E is 5 in the order of english alphabet, so 5 × ? = (3 × 7) – 6 ; 5 × ? = 15 ; ? = 3. 23. (c) : As ‘r’ is 18 in the order of english alphabet, then (28 × 23) + 18 = 173 + 489 letter ‘c’ is 3rd in the order of english alphabet (54 × 15) + 3 = 342 + 471 Similarly, letter ‘d’ is 4 in the order of english alphabet (1 × 11) + 4 = 5 + ? ; 11 + 4 = 5 + ? ; ? = 10. 24. (c) : Letter ‘G’ is 7th in the order of english alphabet. Starting from left section of the big triangle the order is G – 3 i.e. 7 – 3 = 4; G + 3 i.e. 7 + 3 = 10 and G × 3 i.e. 7 × 3 = 21. The number in the right section of the inner triangle is the sum of the outer numbers minus G i.e. (4 + 10 + 21) – 7 = 35 – 7 = 28 letter ‘P’ is 16th in order of english alphabet, so 16 – 4 = 12, 16 + 4 = 20; 16 × 4 = 64 and (12 + 20 + 64) –16 = 96 – 16 = 80 Similarly , letter ‘T’ is 20th in the order of english alphabet, so, 20 – 5 = 15 ; 20 + 5 = 25 ; 20 × 5 = 100 and (15 + 25 + 100) – 20 = 140 – 20 = 120 25. (a) : It can be shown as: (15 – 3) + 15 = 27 ; (31 – 6) + 31 = 56 So, now by looking at the options, (40 – 9) + 40 = 71. 26. (b) : It can be shown as: 13 × 17 = 221 ; 12 × 19 = 228 ; 13 × 18 = 234. 27. (b) : The figure at bottom is obtained by squaring the product of upper figure. It can be shown as: (4 × 3)2 = 144 ; (11 × 9)2 = 9801 ; (15 × 6)2 = 8100. 28. (c) : Figure at bottom is product of the two numbers at top as: 5 × 4 = 20 ; 8 × 8 = 64 ; www.tissnetprep.com So, 6 × 6 = 36. 29. (b) : Figure at bottom is square root of the product of the two numbers at top as: 4 × 9 = 36 so 36 = 6 ; 9 × 16 = 144 so 144 = 12 Hence, 16 × ? = 20 = [(20) × (20)] = 400 ; 400 ÷ 16 = 25. 30. (b) : The centre figure is obtained as the difference of the product of upper values and lower values as: (5 × 6) – (3 × 8) = 6 ; (10 × 4) – (2 × 7) = 26 So, (9 × 7) – (6 × 8) = 15. 31. (b) : The value in centre is equal to sum of all the numbers as: 17 + 52 + 8 + 12 = 89 ; 24 + 61 + 49 + 33 = 167 So, 61 + 121 + 15 + 33 = 230. 32. (c) : It can be shown as: r1 ÷ 4 = r2 ; r2 ÷ 3 = r3 ; r3 ÷ 2 = r4 So, 24 ÷ 4 = 6 ; 144 ÷ 4 = 36 6 ÷ 3 = 2 ; 36 ÷ 3 = 12 2 ÷ 2 = 1 ; 12 ÷ 2 = 6 Similarly, 384 ÷ 4 = 96 ; 96 ÷ 3 = 32 ; 32 ÷ 2 = 16. 33. (d) : C3 is sum of C1 + C2 as: 1 + (1/2) = 3/2 ; 2 + (2/3) = 8/3 So, 3 + ? = 19/5 ; So, (19/5) – 3 = 4/5 34. (d) : It can be shown as: C1 + (1/2)C2 = C3 As, 7 + (1/2) × 4 = 9 ; 28 + (1/2) × 16 = 36 56 + (1/2) × 32 = 72 ; So, 14 + (1/2) × 8 = 18 35. (b) : It can be shown as: R4 = R 1 × R2 × R3 As, 9 × 5 × 3 = 135 ; 5 × 7 × 4 = 140 6 × ? × 5 = 150 ; 150 ÷ 30 = 5 36. (b) : It can be shown as: R4 = R 1 × R2 × R3 So, 9 × 3 × 3 = 81 ; 11 × 4 × 4 = 176 13 × 7 × ? = 455 ; So, 455 ÷ 91 = 5 37. (a) : The pattern is: 6 + 9 = 15 – 1 = 14 (2 + 7 + 5 = 14) 3 + 6 = 9 – 1 = 8 (8) 4 + 6 = 10 – 1 = 9 (1 + 2 + 6 = 9) 38. (c) : The pattern is: (82 + 22 + 32) = 77 So, 77 + 77 = 154 ; (52 + 92 + 62) = 142 So, 142 + 241 = 383 www.tissnetprep.com 39. (b) : In first row, 513 + 135 = 648 ; 694 + 946 = 1640. 40. (c) : The pattern is: In first column: (11 × 13) + (7 × 2) = 157; (9 × 17) + (12 × 2) = 177 41. (b) : The pattern is: In the first column = (5 × 6 × 7) + (5 + 6 + 7) = 228 ; (8 × 11 × 14) + (8 + 11 + 14) = 1265. 42. (a) : The pattern is: In first column: (14 × 10) + (16 × 2) = 172 ; (8 × 13) + (14 × 2) = 132. 43. (c) : The pattern is: In the row: (14 + 10) × 8 = 192 In second row: (16 + 13) × 9 = 261 44. (b) : The pattern is: In first row: (42 + 62 + 32) × 3 = 183 ; (62 + 42 + 22) × 3 = 168 45. (b) : The pattern is; In the first column: (16 + 18) × 11 = 374 ; (9 + 3) × 10 = 120. 46. (d) : The pattern is: In the first column: (12 × 4 × 11) + 36 = 564 ; (21 × 13 × 4) + 36 = 1128 47. (a) : The pattern is: In first column: 13 + 31 = 44 ; 44 + 44 = 88 ; 88 + 88 = 176 ; 34 + 43 = 77; 77 + 77 = 154 ; 154 + 451 = 605. 48. (c) : In first row: (16 + 8)/9 = 249 ; (23 + 26)/19 = 4919 49. (a) : The pattern is: In first row: (11 + 6 + 19) × 19 = 684 (23 + 11 + 7) × 7 = 287. 50. (b) : The pattern is: In first column: (18 × 9) + 15 = 177 ; (17 × 8) + 12 = 148
