The Real-Life Effects of Cyberbullying on Children
By Sherri Gordon
Updated on July 22, 2022

Mental Effects of Cyberbullying
When cyberbullying is ongoing, victims may relate to the world around them differently than others. For
many, life can feel hopeless and meaningless.1
They may lose interest in things they once enjoyed and spend less time interacting with family and friends.
And, in some cases, depression and thoughts of suicide can set in.
Depression and Anxiety
Victims of cyberbullying may succumb to anxiety, depression, and other stress-related conditions. The
added stress of coping with cyberbullying on a regular basis can steal their feelings of happiness and
contentment. It also can increase feelings of worry and isolation.
Cyberbullying also can erode self-confidence and feelings of self-worth, which can contribute to
depression and anxiety.
Research has consistently supported the notion that increasing levels of cyberbullying lead to higher levels
of depression. In fact, one study found that 93% of those victimized by cyberbullying reported feelings of
sadness, powerlessness, and hopelessness.1

Piece 3: https://ligsuniversity.com/blog/the-impact-of-social-media-on-consumer-behavior
The Impact of Social Media on Consumer Behavior
Today’s buying behavior is often called online decision making. It is characterized by, among other things,
information overload. Modern consumers are bombarded with thousands of pieces of information every
single day over the Internet, and their attention span has deteriorated rapidly. This means that a typical
consumer’s evaluation cycle is significantly cut from a stage of multiple days or hours to a matter of
minutes or even seconds, which is important for the marketers to know, as the traditional marketing
communication strategies do not work anymore.
The modern consumer’s decision process is much more dynamic. It starts with the initial consideration set,
same as in the traditional model, initiated by the need recognition. It is followed by information gathering
and active evaluation of the alternatives. Social media and the Internet technologies have allowed an
average consumer today to have access to information about the products and services on a global scale.
This means that, for example, the evaluation of different brands of shampoo is not limited to the shampoos
offered on the same shelf from a supermarket. Today, consumers can type in their online search engine the
exact type of product they are looking for, and very quickly make their decision based on their price-
sensitivity, quality, price-value ratio of the product, user reviews, etc.
One major difference from the traditional model is in the post-purchase experience. It is much more
difficult to achieve brand loyalty today regardless of the positive experience with the product/service.
There is an ongoing exposure to competitor’s products/services and a constant battle for the consumer’s
attention. This leads to new triggers and it gets harder and harder to close the loyalty loop. Thanks to the
power granted by the Internet, consumers today easily hop between different stages and between multiple
companies.

Appendix 3
https://www.link4campus.com/the-impact-of-social-media-on-education-and-learning/
The impact of social media on education and learning
The advent of social media has revolutionized communication, and it has transformed the way
people interact, share information, and learn. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter,
Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn have gained widespread popularity over the past decade, and
they have significantly impacted the education sector.

In today’s digital age, social media has become an integral part of the educational landscape. It has
transformed the way students learn, access information, and interact with their peers and teachers.
However, the impact of social media on education and learning has both positive and negative
effects.

One of the most significant advantages of social media in education is its ability to provide access to
vast amounts of information. Through social media platforms such as YouTube and Twitter,
students can access a wealth of educational resources, including online courses, tutorials, and
research papers. Social media has made it easier for students to learn on their own, without relying
on traditional classroom instruction.

In addition, social media has made it easier for students to collaborate and share information with
their peers. Social media platforms such as Facebook and LinkedIn provide a platform for students
to connect with other students from different parts of the world, share ideas, and collaborate on
projects. This has created a global learning community that transcends geographical boundaries.

On the other hand, social media can also have negative impacts on education and learning. One of
the most significant disadvantages is its potential to distract students from their studies. Social
media platforms such as Instagram and Snapchat are designed to be addictive, and students may
spend hours scrolling through their feeds, which can lead to a loss of productivity and a decline in
academic performance.

Moreover, social media can also expose students to cyberbullying and online harassment, which can
have negative effects on their mental health and well-being. Students who are victims of
cyberbullying may experience anxiety, depression, and social isolation, which can affect their
academic performance.

In conclusion, social media has had a significant impact on education and learning, both positive
and negative. While it has provided students with access to vast amounts of information and the
ability to collaborate with their peers, it has also created distractions and exposed students to
cyberbullying and online harassment. As such, it is essential to strike a balance between the use of
social media for educational purposes and its potential negative effects. Educators and students must
work together to create a safe and productive learning environment that utilizes the advantages of
social media while minimizing its negative impacts.
