Derivation Rules
1-Noun

Noun Suffixes: -tion -sion -ment -ence -ance -acy -ity –ism - age – dom – hood –
ness – ship – ty – ure - ( -er -or - ist = person)

The (Noun) is used after..

1- Prepositions ( of, in, on, by, off, about , with, ...)


-They mainly focused on tourism in their meeting.

2- Articles ( a, an, the)


-Another craft practiced in Madaba is the creation of ceramic items

3- Demonstratives (this, that, those, these)


-This advertisement is taken from Jordan Times.

4 - Possessive (‘s, my, his, her, your, our, their, its)


-Osama’s success in exams pleased me.

5- Quantifiers / determiners (some, all, any, lots of, many, much, no, both, each, every, (a)few,
(a)little …)
- There is no important of discussing like this issue now.
-Sometimes you find several traditions in just in just one country.

6- Adjective + noun
- What they all had in common, however, was a strong belief that it is viable.
7- Ordinal/ cardinal numbers
-I can’t tolerate a second failure.

Adjective Suffixes: less – ful –ble- en – ish – lar – ike – ous – tial – ve – al - ial -ic

am)

2. (after adverb Ending in – ly)

suffixes Verb ( en- ize- ise - ate – fy -ute) // ((ate-fy-eed-ise-ize))

(can, could, shall, should, may, might, will, would, have to, must, ought to, used to, to, in
order to, so as to, do, does, did)

-Employers should simplify the procedures to the new employees.

-The headmaster may activate the new regulation soon.
