CH02 - Creating the Base Feature

Chapter 2 covers the process of creating a base feature in a part model using predefined templates and sketches. It details the steps for creating a new part file, defining sketch planes, projecting references, and creating 2D sketches to form 3D solid features. Additionally, it explains how to edit sketched features and includes practice exercises for applying the concepts learned.

Chapter 2: Creating the Base Feature

✓ Create a new part model using a predefined template.

✓ Create a sketch by appropriately selecting a sketch plane.
✓ Project references onto a sketch plane for use in locating entities.
✓ Create, dimension, and constrain 2D entities in a sketch.
✓ Create a 3D solid base feature.
✓ Make changes to a sketched feature.
Creating a New Part File
• New part files start with a template to provide standard configurations and settings.

Method 1: Create a part with a selected template.

1. Select New on the Home page.
2. Locate and select the required template.
3. Click Create.

Creating a New Part File
Method 2: Create a part using the default template.

• Home page – Expand the New menu and select Part (.ipt).
• Quick Access Toolbar – Expand the (New) option and select Part.
• File menu – Select New>Part.

• Note that selecting New directly in any of these

areas opens the Create New File dialog box,
allowing you to select the template (Method 1).
