Lesson Finding the Area of a Given

1 Figure Using Square-Tile

Units
Let Us Learn!
After going through this module, you are expected
to:
 Find the area of a given figure using square-tile units.
(M2ME-IVg-36)
A square-tile unit is the unit used in finding the area of
a surface.
Count the square units to find the area of the surface
or multiply the width and the length to find the area of the
surface.

Question: What is the shape of the bedroom floor?
Answer: The shape of the bedroom floor is rectangle.
Question: What is the shape of the bathroom floor?
Answer: The shape of the bathroom floor is square.
Question What covers the bedroom and bathroom floor?
Answer: Tiles
Question What is the shape of each tile? Answer: Square
Question: Which part of the house is bigger, the bedroom
floor or the bathroom floor?
Answer: the bedroom floor
How did you know that the bedroom is bigger than the
bathroom?

3
Answer: By counting the numbers of square tile that covers
the area.
How many square tiles are there in the bathroom?
Answer: 30 square units
What about the bathroom?
Answer:16 square units

There are two sides of a figure. The wide area is called the
width and long area is the length. To find the area multiply
length by the width. This is the short cut or the other way in
finding the area. For example:

length

1 2 3 4
width
2

A=L x W
A=4 X 2 A=8

Estimating the area of a

Lesson given figure using any
2 shape.

Let Us Learn!
After going through with this lesson, you are expected to:
 Estimate the area of a given figure using any
shape (M2MEIVh-37).
 Estimate means to just roughly calculate the area
of a given figure.
Area is the product of length multiplied by the width

Let Us Study
Posing the problem:
Mrs. Santos plans to have the flooring of her classroom
covered with tiles. She estimated the area of the flooring to
find out the number of tiles needed to cover the flooring.
How did Mrs. Santos estimate the area of the figure?
Let us help Mrs. Santos in estimating the area of the
flooring using Square triangle rectangle

11
A. Using Square

How many squares cover the flooring? 12

What is the estimated area? 12 square units

B.Using triangle

1 square is equivalent to 2 triangles 1 2=

Try to fit the triangle into the square.
What is the estimated area based on the number of
triangles? 24
If 2 triangle is equal to 1 square unit then what is estimated
area of the flooring? 12 square units.

12
C.Using Rectangle
1

What have you observed about the size of the square?

and the rectangle? How many squares cover the
rectangle? 2 square

Try to fit the rectangle into the diagram and try to

estimate the area?
How Many rectangles cover the area?6 rectangles
If 1 rectangle is equal to 2 squares, then what is the
estimated area of the flooring? 12 square units
How did you find the area using the rectangle?
By counting the number of rectangles covers the figure
then multiplied by 2.

13
Let Us Practice
Direction:Give the estimated area of the figure using
square,triangle and rectangle.Remember that
1 square is equal to 2 triangles,1rectangle is equal
to 2 squares.
Panuto:Ibigay ang tinantyang area ng pigura gamit ang
parisukat,tatsulok at parihaba.Tandaan 1 parisukat
ay katumbas ng dalawang tatsulok at 1 parihaba
ay katumbas ng dalawang parisukat.

1. square(parisukat)

__________

2. triangle (tatsulok ) ___________

3. rectangle( parihaba)

_________

14
Let Us Practice More
Direction:Estimate the area of the given figure using
square, triangle and rectangle. Connect your answer.
Panuto: Tantiyahin ang area ng mga larawan gamit
ang parisukat,tatsulok at parihaba.Idugtong sa

Let Us Remember

We can estimate the area of a given figure using

square by counting the _______ of both sides then _______
the two numbers.
We estimate the area of a given figure using triangles by
counting how many _______cover the figure and then
________ by 2.
And we can estimate the area of a given figure using
rectangle by counting how many ______ cover the figure
then_______ by 2.
