National Service Training Program 2

Camagay, Xyrile Jade Prelim Examination – 2nd Semester

BSN – 13 Prof. Anthony Ardeña

1. Explain the components of NSTP.

 Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) - is a vital part of the country's defense
strategy, offering college students a military training for personal and professional
growth. It includes physical exercises, tactical education, and leadership development,
fostering values like discipline and patriotism. After graduation, ROTC cadets can serve
as reserve officers in the Armed Forces of the Philippines, bolstering national security.
The program evolves to meet modern challenges, ensuring graduates have the skills for
military roles. ROTC alumni often become leaders in diverse fields, using their training
to serve communities and the nation.
 Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS - is a mandatory program for college students
in the Philippines under the National Service Training Program (NSTP). It emphasizes
community service and social responsibility by engaging students in various projects
and activities aimed at addressing societal issues and improving local communities.
Through CWTS, students participate in initiatives such as environmental conservation,
disaster preparedness, health education, and outreach programs for marginalized groups.
The program aims to instill a sense of civic consciousness, volunteerism, and active
citizenship among students, providing them with practical experiences that complement
their academic learning and empower them to become agents of positive change in
society.

 Literacy Training Service (LTS) - is a key part of the National Service Training
Program (NSTP) for college students in the Philippines. LTS concentrates on advancing
literacy and education in communities through activities like teaching basic literacy
skills, tutoring sessions, reading programs, and educational workshops. It aims to tackle
literacy issues and empower individuals, particularly in underserved areas, by improving
their reading, writing, and numeracy skills. LTS offers students opportunities to aid
community development while honing teaching, communication, and leadership abilities.
Through LTS, students not only contribute to literacy efforts but also foster social
responsibility and advocate for education and lifelong learning in their communities.
2. What is community immersion? Give actual examples. What barangay does
it have, and how do they conduct it?

 Community Immersion - Community immersion is a hands-on approach where

individuals or groups deeply engage with a community to understand its dynamics and
address real-world issues through direct interaction, observation, and collaboration with
community members. It involves activities like interviews, volunteering, and working
together to develop solutions tailored to the community's needs, promoting mutual
learning and sustainable development.
 Example:
 Barangay Graceville in San Juan del Monte, Bulacan, earned recognition in
2015 for its commendable efforts in promoting community participation
in local governance. Residents actively engaged in identifying problem
areas, offering recommendations, and defining success indicators for
barangay programs, which subsequently informed the allocation of the
barangay's budget and the formulation of a comprehensive five-year
development plan. With education identified as a top priority, the barangay
established facilities for alternative learning classes, provided scholarships,
and distributed free instructional materials to out-of-school youths.
Furthermore, initiatives such as a mobile clinic and an effective dispute
resolution system were implemented. Notably, Barangay Graceville has
attracted delegations from various local government units, schools, and
international visitors from countries such as South Korea and Australia, all
seeking to learn from its successful community-driven programs.

3. What approach will your group take to implementing community

immersion? Explain in details

During community immersion, our group approach focuses on active engagement, respectful
collaboration, empathy, reflective learning, cultural sensitivity, community-centered approach.
Here's a detailed explanation of each aspect:

1.) Active Engagement:

Our group actively participate in the daily activities of the community, whether it's assisting
with chores, joining cultural rituals, or engaging in community events.
By immersing ourselves in the community's routine, we gain a firsthand understanding of their
way of life, challenges, and aspirations.

2.) Respectful Collaboration:

Our group approach community members with humility, respect, and an open mind,
recognizing their expertise, experiences, and perspectives.
We listen attentively to their stories, concerns, and aspirations, valuing their input in shaping
our collaborative efforts.
3.) Empathy:

Our group strive to empathize with community members by putting ourselves in their shoes,
understanding their joys, struggles, and aspirations.
Empathy guides our interactions and decision-making, fostering trust, connection, and genuine
relationships with community members.

4.) Reflective Learning:

Our group regularly reflect on my experiences, observations, and interactions during the
immersion, both individually and collectively with fellow participants.
Reflection deepens my understanding of the community dynamics, challenges, and my own
biases, facilitating continuous learning and growth.

5.) Cultural Sensitivity:

Our group approach cultural differences with curiosity, respect, and sensitivity, seeking to learn
from and appreciate diverse customs, traditions, and worldviews.
We avoid imposing our own cultural norms and values, instead, embracing cultural diversity as
an enriching aspect of the immersion experience.

6.) Community-Centered Approach:

Our group prioritize the needs, aspirations, and agency of the community, ensuring that our
efforts are driven by their priorities and participation.
We collaborate with community members to co-create solutions that are culturally relevant,
sustainable, and empowering.

4. Expected outcome of your community immersion. Will this be a short-term

or long-term outcome? Will the community accept it or not?

 Our group view community immersion as a starting point for long-term engagement and
collaboration, rather than a one-time intervention. We strive to build lasting relationships,
trust, and partnerships with community members, supporting their ongoing efforts for
development and empowerment. By adopting this approach, our group aim to foster
meaningful connections, mutual learning, and positive impact during community
immersion, while also contributing to personal growth and social change.

 I am confident that our community will warmly embrace this initiative, as our active
participation contributes significantly to the educational journey of children. By
immersing ourselves in this endeavor, we create a supportive environment where
community members can collaborate to facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and the
expansion of young minds' ideas. Through our collective efforts, we empower children to
explore new concepts, challenge their perspectives, and ultimately, grow into well-
rounded individuals equipped with the skills and insights needed to thrive in an ever-
evolving world.
