take for 30kC or charge to pass?
17. A bulb has a p.d. across it of 6V and a resistance of 24. What size
current flows through it?
22. A toaster has a power of 350W and is on for 2 minutes. How much energy
does it use?
23. How long does a 5kW car engine take to use 6 MJ (6 x 10 6 J) of energy?

28. A theatre lighting system works from 400V and has a power of 9kW. What
current is it using?
30. When a current of 5A passes through a 200 resistor, how much power is
generated?
34. What is the volume of a football that has a mass of 200g and a density of
2.9 kg/m3?
35. State the equation relating force, spring constant and extension.
36. A spring with spring constant 20 N/m extends by 0.17m. What force is
needed to do this?
37. What is the spring constant of a spring that extends 4 cm with a force on
it of 5kN?
38. State the formula linking kinetic energy, mass and velocity. (Qs
on this equation are on the sheet for Paper 1).
39. State the formula linking height, mass, gravitational field
strength and gravitational potential energy (Qs on this equation are
also on the sheet for Paper 1).
The last 6 equations will be given to you on the exam paper
(so you don’t need to learn them). BUT you do need to know
how to use them.
E = I ×V × t Energy transferred = current x p.d. x
time
40. What is the energy transferred by an X-box that has a current of 0.25A, a
p.d. of 230V and which is played for 4 hours?
Transformer Equation:
45. What is the current in the primary coil, when the p.d. across primary is 2
kV, the p.d. across the secondary is 40 MV and the secondary current 30 nA?
ΔQ = m × c × Δθ
Energy transferred = mass x specific heat x temperature
capacity change
46. The specific heat capacity of water is 4182 J/kg oC. Calculate the energy
needed to heat 2 kg of water from 10 oC to 70 oC.
47. Calculate the temperature change for a 2kg block of iron, which has a
specific heat capacity of 370 J/kgoC and is supplied with 33 kJ of energy.
Q = m× L Thermal energy for a = mass x specific latent

energy is needed to change 3 kg from liquid to gas at its boiling point?
49. When 700g of water freezes to ice at 0oC, 233 kJ of energy is released.
What is the specific latent heat of melting for ice? (remember melting and
freezing both happen at the same temperature, so the values of latent heat for
melting and freezing are the same).
