1. Locate the centroid of a circular arc as shown in the figure. [r sin(α)/α]

2. Determine the distance from the base of a triangle of altitude h to the centroid of its area. [h/3]

3. Locate the centroid of the area of a circular sector with respect to its vertex. [(2/3) r sin(α)/α]

4. Determine the x- and y-coordinates of the centroid of the shaded area. [0.762, 0.533]

5. Determine the x- and y-coordinates of the centroid of the shaded area. [ 7a / 6   1 , a /   1 ]
6. Determine the x- and y-coordinates of the centroid of the shaded area. [244 mm, 117.7 mm]

7. By the method of finding centroid of a composite area, determine the coordinates of the centroid of the
shaded area shown in problem 5.

8. The circular arc is rotated through 3600 about the y axis. Determine the outer surface area of the resulting

9. Compute the volume of the solid generated by revolving the right triangle about the z axis through 1800.

15. Determine the moment of inertia of the area under the parabola about the x axis. Solve by using (a) a
horizontal strip of area and (b) a vertical strip of area. [14.40 (units)4]
16. Calculate the moment of inertia of the shaded area about the x-axis. [9x104 mm4]

17. The cross-sectional area of a wide-flange I-beam has the dimensions shown. Find out I x by treating the
section as being composed of three rectangles. [3.90x108 mm4]

18. Determine the moments of inertia of the Z-section about its centroidal x0- and y0- axes. [22.6x106 mm4,
9.81x106 mm4]

19. Calculate the polar radius of gyration of the shaded area about its centroid C. [261 mm]
