Study the picture given above showing three food chains (a), (b) and (c) and answer the
following questions:
(i) The first trophic level in all food chains is producers. Why? What percentage of solar energy
do these producers capture for their use?
(ii) Why are the arrows shown in the diagram in one direction only and not vice versa? Justify.

process?

26. Salt A commonly used in bakery products on heating gets converted into another salt B which
itself is used for removal of hardness of water and a gas C is evolved. The gas C when passed
through lime water, turns it milky. Identify A, B and C. equation for one such solution.
27. Give reason for each of the following:
(i) Alveoli in lungs are richly supplied with blood capillaries.
(ii) Respiratory pigment in the blood takes up oxygen and not carbon dioxide.
(iii) During anaerobic respiration, a 3-carbon molecule is formed as an end product instead of
𝐶𝑂2 in human beings.
28. (a) In a family of four individuals, the father possessed long ears and the mother possessed
short
ears. If the parents had pure dominant and recessive traits respectively, then calculate the
ratio of genetic makeup of F2 generation. Show a suitable cross.
(b) If father had short ears and the mother had long ears, explain what effect it will have on
the ratio of genetic makeup in F2 generation?
OR
List two differences between dominant traits and recessive traits. What percentage of pea
plants in the F2 generation were with yellow seeds in Mendel's cross between the pea plants
having yellow (YY) and green coloured (yy) seeds? Show a suitable cross also.
29. A child while playing with his father's spectacles burnt a piece of paper by focusing a small
image of the sun on it.
(i) What defect of vision his father is suffering from?
(ii) Draw a ray diagram to show image formation by the defective eye?
(iii) Draw a ray diagram to show how this defect can be corrected using proper lens.
30. (a) State Ohm’s Law
(b) A student has two resistors 2Ω and 3Ω. She has to put one of them in place of 𝑅2 as shown
in the circuit. The current that she needs in the entire circuit is exactly 9A. Show by
calculation which of the two resistors she should choose.
31. (i) What is the function of earth wire in domestic electrical circuit?
(ii) What do you mean by short circuiting an electric supply?
(iii) What is the usual current rating of the fuse wire in the line to feed-

Question No. 34 to 36 are long answer questions
32. Soaps and detergents are both, types of salts. State the difference between the two.
Write the mechanism of the cleansing action of soaps. Why do soaps not form lather
(foam) with hard water? Mention any two problems that arise due to the use of
detergents instead of soaps.
OR
(a) On dropping a small piece of sodium in a test tube containing carbon compound 'X'
with molecular formula 𝐶2 𝐻6 𝑂, a brisk effervescence is observed and a gas 'Y' is
produced. On bringing a burning splinter at the mouth of the test tube the gas evolved
burns with a pop sound. Identify "X' and 'Y'. Also write the chemical equation for the
reaction. Write the name and structure of the product formed, when you heat 'X' with
excess cone, sulphuric acid.
(b)Write the chemical equations to show what happens when
(i) an ester reacts with a base
(ii) ethanol reacts with ethanoic acid in the presence of sulphuric acid?
33. Biology teacher has given an assignment to class 10 students in which they have to
keep a burning lamp on one side of the growing seedling which is kept in a dark room
for few days. After few days students have observed that the top part of seedling bends
towards the burning lamp.
In order to help them understand the movements in the plants, answer the following
questions: (a) What causes the bending of tip of seedling in the plant towards burning
lamp?
OR
(a) Shoot of a plant bend towards light. How does the bending of a root take place?
(b) Compare the movement of growth of the pollen tube towards ovale with the
movement shown in the above figure.

34. After coming from playground, Tanu feels very hungry. But still some more time was
required by her mother to cook food. While waiting on dining table Tanu was playing
with her spoon. All of sudden she observed two different orientations of her face when
she looked her face from both sides of spoon. She was confused why the orientation of
her face changed in two cases. She was curious to know why her reflected image
appears upside down in the one surface of a spoon but the correct way up in the
opposite surface.
(b) Give another example of an organism that also shows the same method of
reproduction.
(c) Describe the process shown in the picture.
(d) Illustrate the following with the help of suitable diagrams
(i) Spore formation in a fungus.
(ii) Budding in a multicellular organism
36. (a) Scries arrangements are not used for domestic circuits. List any two reasons.
(b) An electric geyser rated 1500 W, 250 V is connected to 250 V line mains. Calculate:
(i) the electric current drawn by it.
(ii) energy consumed by it in 50 hours.
OR
(a) Though same current flows through the electric line wires and the filament of bulb,
yet only the filament glows. Why?
(b) The temperature of the filament of bulb is 2700 °C when it glows. Why does it not
get burnt up at such high temperature?
(c) An electric iron is rated 2 kW at 200 V. Calculate the capacity of the fuse that should
be used for the electric iron.

Question No. 37 to 39 are case-based/data -based questions
37. A scale for measuring hydrogen ion concentration in a solution, called pH scale has
been developed. The p in pH stands for 'potenz' in German, meaning power. On the pH
scale we can measure pH generally from 0 (very acidic) to 14 (very alkaline). pH should
be thought of simply as a number which indicates the acidic or basic nature of a
solution. Higher the hydronium ion concentration, lower is the pH value.
Answer the following on the basis of above paragraph:
(a) What does the scale represent when pH value increases from 7 to 14?
(b) What are the importance of pH in everyday life?
(c) What happens when the pH of mouth is lower than 5.5
OR
Solution of 𝑁𝐻4 𝐶𝑙 in water is acidic or basic. Give reason to support your answer
