The+Scope+of+Works

The document outlines the project scope, detailing what is included (in-scope) and excluded (out-of-scope) from the project, along with examples. It also discusses the process for managing scope changes, including design approval, change order requests, and updates to project documentation. What is Project Scope

The project scope should contain and specify all the key deliverables and tasks for the project.

In Scope

What is In-Scope

Ensure all responsible parties stay within the scope during the project, not working on external
activities that will not contribute to the success of the project.

Example of In-Scope

The team was given the task to design and develop a new engine for a car.
The entire team works on different parts of the engine, at the same time collaborate with the
team members and make sure the engine and engine alone take the full concentration of the
team.

Out of Scope

What is Out-of-Scope

When working on a task that was not included in the project design scope of works and does not
contribute to the success of the project.

Example of Out-of Scope

The team was given the task to design and develop a new engine for a car.
Instead of the entire team working on the success of the engine, one team moves to work on the
car suspension. This was not part of the original scope of works.
By going out of scope the success of the project will be harder.

Scope Change

Design

The design is approved during the design phase and no changes to this design can be made
without all the responsible stakeholders being notified and all stakeholders approve the change.

Change Order Request

The change order request is submitted for all the relevant stakeholders to review and approve.
Changes to the scope will always have financial, quality and time related issues that must be
addressed.

Change Order

The responsible stakeholders will all review the change order and comment on changes to the
budget, quality and duration of the project before deciding if the change is feasible and within
the project objectives.

Change order Approval

Once all the stakeholders approve the change order the document is distributed to all
management so the updates to the design can be executed.

Change Update on Project Documentation

The change in scope will have an impact on budget, time, and quality. Update the programme
and budget to ensure the duration and financial changes are indicated. The execution of the
change must also be managed with quality control to ensure no quality implications occur during
the change.

Scope Baseline

The scope baseline provides detailed information about each of the smaller activities that will
make out the project.
The activities will get a code with a description of the works and could include the resources
necessary to complete the task.

Work Breakdown Structure

To give a clear overview of the project scope we need to create a detailed work breakdown
structure. The work breakdown structure is exactly what it says, it is a structure that breaks
down the work in smaller activities that will make out the project.

Project Name
Code Description Recourses
1 Foundation
1.1 Earthworks
Labour
Equipment
1.1.1 Surveying and setting out
Tools

Method Statement

Item

Use the item number from the WBS.

Method Description

Describe the method used to complete the activity.

Labour & Output

Describe the labour, including the number of employees as well as the description of labour.
The output of that labour is calculated and provided.

Quantity & Duration

Give the quantity required to complete the task.

Calculate the duration from the output and quantity (Quantity /Output)

Cost, Material, Tools, Transport & Overheads

Calculate project cost, including the material, tools, transport and overheads.
