accomplishment report phil iri 2022-2023

The Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI) aims to enhance reading skills among Filipino children, particularly in Grades 3 to 6, through individualized assessments and remedial instruction. Results from the pretest and post-test indicate significant improvement in reading levels, with an increase in independent readers and a decrease in frustration readers after targeted interventions. The initiative involves collaboration among teachers, parents, and students to foster a reading culture at home and in school.

Rationale:

The Philippine Informal Reading Inventory (Phil-IRI) is an initiative of the

Bureau of Learning Delivery, Department of Education (DepEd) that directly
addresses its thrust to make every Filipino child a reader. It is anchored on the
flagship program of the Department: “Every Child A Reader Program,” which aims to
make every Filipino child a reader and a writer at his/her grade level. The Phil-IRI
Graded Passages is an informal individualized assessment tool used to record the
student’s performance in oral reading, silent reading and/or listening comprehension.

The Phil-IRI Oral Reading Test is administered in order to:

• identify the student’s miscues in oral reading;
• record the number of words that a student reads per minute; and

• find out how well a student understands the passage read.

Flores Integrated School upholds the objectives of Phil-IRI Reading Test in

order to attain the objectives of country’s Education For All.
By conducting remedial instructions, reading marathon every grading period
to those identified poor comprehends, the students increased their reading levels
from frustration to instructional and independent level.

Objectives:
• Increased the reading levels of Grades 3 TO 6 pupils from frustration to
independent.
• Develop a habit of reading among parents and students at home.
• Conduct reading marathon.
Materials /Resources/Persons Involved:
• School Head
• Teachers
• Pupils
• Parents
• Books
• Coupon bond A4
• Computer and Printer
• Time
Activities:
The Filipino teachers served as the reading coordinators who conducted
remedial reading to those identified students who had reading difficulties based on
the Phil-IRI Pretest.
Due to pandemic, the teachers home visited the pupils and conducted reading
remediations. The teachers also gave reading materials to the pupils so that their
parents can follow-up their reading prigress.
While reading, the comprehension questions were answered by the pupils.
Results and Assessment
To assess the reading levels of the students, the Phil-IRI Post Test was
conducted. The results of the pretest and post test are shown in the table below.
There were 52 pupils who have been part of the Phil-IRI Assessment and
their level of comprehension was divided into those groups; Independent
Instructional and Frustration. From the pretest result it was identified that there were
6 Independent readers, 15 Instructional readers, and 31 Frustration readers and 0
non-readers
The post test was then conducted after the remedial reading activities and the results
gradually improved. The results shows that there were 19 Independent readers, 20
Instructional readers, and 13 Frustration readers which means that there is an
increase percentage in independent readers and decrease percentage in
Instructional and frustration readers from the total population of the Grades 3 to 6
pupils who are part of the Phil-IRI (Filipino) assessment.
