GRAPH OF LESSON 4:
QUADRATIC
FUNCTION
MEETING 2
At the end of the lesson, the students should be
able to:
1. Understand, illustrate and describe the
following components of the graph of quadratic
function:
● direction of the opening;
● vertex;
● axis of symmetry;
● x and y-intercepts
𝒇 𝒙 = 𝒙𝟐 + 𝟐𝒙 − 𝟑
To find the x-intercepts, set y = 0. Thus, the x-intercepts are
𝑥 2 + 2𝑥 − 3 = 0 −𝟑, 𝟎 and 𝟏, 𝟎 . These
values could also be found
𝑥+3 𝑥−1 =0 by the quadratic formula (or
𝑥+3=0 𝑥−1=0 by completing the square).

The y-intercept is always the constant
term when the quadratic function is
written in general form.
Find the x and y-intercept of this quadratic function.
