INSTRUCTIONS FOR END-OF-COURSE ASSIGNMENT-SPEAKING 2

FOR THE TEACHERS and STUDENTS

This is the end-of-course assignment for Speaking 2. The students will be assessed individually.
Each student is asked to give a 6-minute talk on given topics which is video-recorded on Flipgrid
(Group Code will be provided by the teacher), and then submitted to the grid for grading by the due
time.
For the talk, the student is allowed to prepare notes and rehearse before recording. While being
recorded, (s)he may glance at the notes, but SHOULD NOT READ from notes or LEARN BY HEART
the notes if (s)he wants to get the best score.
There are three tasks in this assignment: (1) Talking about yourself, (2) Giving advice, and (3) Giving
opinions.
Task 1: Talking about yourself (1minute 30 seconds)

The student will have to present basic information about himself/herself. First, (s)he will state his/her
name and student code. Then (s)he will answer the next three scripted questions (in any order).
In this task, the student should talk for about 1 minute 30 seconds.
Task 2: Giving advice (2 minutes 30 seconds):

The student will be given a situation in which he/she needs to give advice. S(he) is expected to
introduce the situation/problem, give advice and explain in detail the reasons why (s)he comes up with
such advice and/or why others should think it important to take his/her advice.
For this task, the student should talk for about 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

Task 3: Giving opinions (2 minutes)

The student will present his/her opinions on a given topic. (S)he needs to state his/her points of view
and support those viewpoints with good examples and reasons.
For this task, the student should talk for about 2 minutes.
SPEAKING MARKING SCHEME

Students are assessed on their individual performance and not in relation to each other, according to the
following marking rubric. Marks for each of the categories are awarded out of a ten-point scale.

Overall performance : 1 point

Task 1 (Talking about yourself) : 3 points
Task 2 (Giving advice) : 3 points
Task 3 (Giving opinions) : 3 points
