1] Determine the magnitude of F1 and F2 so that the particle is in equilibrium. [ Ans :- F1 = 437.21 N, F2 =
232.56 N ]

2] Determine the magnitude and position of force F so that the force system shown in figure maintain
equilibrium. [ Ans :- θ = 51.050 F = 11.13 kN]

3] Find the angle of tilt θ with the horizontal so that the contact force at B will be one half that at A for the
smooth cylinder. [ Ans :- θ = 18.440 ]
4] The 20 kg homogeneous smooth sphere rests on the two inclines as shown in figure. Determine the
contact forces at A and B.[ Ans :- NA = 101.56 N, θA = 150, NB = 196.2 N, θB = 600]

5] A cylinder of weight 1000 N is rest on the stair as shown in figure. Determine the minimum magnitude of
horizontal force P to raise the cylinder over the step. [ Ans :- P = 577.35 N ]

6] Sphere A having mass 200 kg held in equilibrium as shown in figure below. Determine the normal
reactions at the point of contact. [ Ans :- NA = 981 N, NB = 1699.14 N ]

7] A cylinder of mass 100 kg rest between the inclined planes as shown in figure. Determine the normal
reaction at A and B. [ Ans :- NA = 438 N, NB = 1203.37 N ]

8] A sphere weighing 1000 N is placed in a wrench as shown, find the reactions at the point of contacts.
[ Ans :- NA = 1000 N, NB = 1414.21 N ]
Cables
9] Three cables are joined at the junction C as shown in figure below. Determine the tension in cable AC
and BC caused by the weight of the 30 kg cylinder. [ Ans :- TBC = 263.86 N,TAC = 215.44 N ]

10] Two cables tied together at C are loaded as shown. Knowing that W = 200 N, determine the tension
i) in cable AC, ii) in cable BC. [ Ans :- TAC = 178.64 N, TBC = 272.20 N ]

11] The motor at B winds up the cord attached to the 65 N crate with a constant speed as shown in figure.
Determine the force in cord CD supporting the pulley and the angle θ for equilibrium. Neglect the size of
pulley at C. [ Ans :- TCD = 127.47 N, θ = 78.690 ]

12] The 30 kg pipe is supported at A by a system of five cords as shown in figure. Determine the force in
each cord for equilibrium. [ Ans :- TAB = 339.83 N, TAE = 169.91 N, TCB = 562.31 N, TBD = 490.50 N ]
13] The 500 N crate is hoisted using the ropes AB and AC. Each rope can withstand a maximum tension of
2500 N before it breaks. If AB always remains horizontal, determine the smallest angle θ to which the crate
can be hoisted. [Ans :- θ = 11.540 ]

14] Beam AB is in equilibrium for the force system shown in figure below, find the support reactions Ax, Ay
and RB. [Ans :- RB = 7.22kN, AY = 8.44kN, AX = 5.66kN ]

15] A uniform rod of mass m = 2 kg is resting as shown. Find angle ‘θ’ for equilibrium of bar. Take a = 2 m
and L = 6 m. [Ans. - θ = 29.120 ]
16] A light bar supports a 15 kg block at its mid point C. Rollers at A and B rest against smooth surfaces
and a horizontal cable AD is attached at A. Determine the tension in cable AD and reactions at A and B. [
Ans :- NA = 147.14 N, NB = T = 105.1 N ]

17] Determine mass of the heaviest uniform pipe that can be supported as shown in figure, knowing that the
maximum allowable tension in the cable is 18 kN. Neglect friction.
[ Ans :- NA = 22.5 kN, mg = 35.39 kN, m = 3607.54 kg ]
