COURSE TITLE Introduction to Linguistics
CO-REQUISTE: None
This course provides a foundational understanding of linguistics, covering its core areas: phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and
pragmatics. Students will explore key linguistic theories related to language acquisition, psycholinguistics, and sociolinguistics. The course

equips pre-service English teachers with the necessary linguistic knowledge to effectively plan, implement, and assess English language
instruction.
COURSE CREDITS: 3 units Theoretical Hours per week: 3 hours Laboratory Hours per week: None
COURSE OUTCOMES: Upon completion of the course, students are expected to have developed:

A. COGNITIVE

The ability to analyze different languages and their structures by identifying and describing the phonological, morphological, and
syntactic features.
The ability to synthesize information from various sources (e.g., lectures, readings, discussions) to develop a comprehensive
understanding of different linguistic theories and concepts.

B. PSYCHOMOTOR
The ability to effectively communicate linguistic concepts and analyses through clear and concise written and oral presentations.
The ability to apply linguistic knowledge to analyze and interpret real-world language phenomena (e.g., analyzing language data,
identifying language variations).

C. AFFECTIVE

An appreciation for the diversity and complexity of human language and the importance of language in shaping human thought and
culture.
A value for the importance of clear and effective communication and an understanding of the impact of language on social
interaction.
