I. ABSTRACT
II. INTRODUCTION
The volume of water on earth is estimated to be 1.4 billion cubic kilometers, which is quite
enough to create a layer 3 km deep over the earth. However, 95% of this water is in the
oceans and is useless to man, and a further 4% is locked in the ice thus leaving only 1% for
consumption. A certain study shows that each individual consumes 140 liters of water per
day. With such high rates of water wastage, the world is undergoing a critical water
shortage. In view of this, our research proposes a water tank level detection and
management system.
The microcontroller efficiently controls the various components of this system so that
there is no wastage of water. When the system detects that the tank is empty, it switches on
the water pump and fills the tank with water. Once the tank is full, the relay switch shuts
off the system to prevent overflow. A display from an LCD screen shows the water level in
the tank at any instance in real time.
It has been fitted with several sensors that indicate the different levels of water in the tank,
such as low, medium, and high. All these sensors send signals to the microcontroller,
which processes the data and controls the water pump accordingly. The comparator circuit
compares the water levels and energizes appropriate actions.
The system incorporates a GSM module, which may send notifications to the user
regarding the water level status. In this way, remote monitoring and management would
have already been carried out by the time human intervention is required to refill the tank.
The user knows the status of the tank at a glance by the LED indicators set at different
water levels.

IV. CONCLUSION
This proposed two-level water controller system uses a GSM module along with the
Microcontroller 8051 in efficiently managing water resources and avoiding overflow in the
tanks. The sensors and microcontroller automate the control of the water pump regarding
keeping the required quantity of water in overhead tanks without manual supervision. The
system offers on-spot monitoring through an LCD display and LED indicators, and it also
provides distant alerts with the use of the GSM module, making the whole process much more
convenient for the user.
This solution solves a global water-scarce problem, saves water, and does not waste it on
financial and electricity savings. The innovative solution supports environmental sustainability
through sourcing of clean water to the generations and presents a practical illustration of modern
technology in water conservation.
