Question 1). In how many ways can the letters of the following can be arranged?/ how many
distinct permutations can be made of the following words? ( factorial)
i). “UNIVERSITY”
ii). “COMPUTER”
iii). “ACCOUNTANCY”
iv). “MISSISSIPPI”

Question 2). From a batch of 5 Engineers and 6 Accountants, a group of 5 students is to be

selected. How many combinations would be in: (combination)
a. 3 Engineers and 2 Accountants.
b. 2 Engineers and 3 Accountants.
c. 5 Engineers .
d. At Least 2 Engineers.

Question 3). (use combinations asked but divide by all possible combinations)
A box contains 7 white balls and 3 red balls. Three balls are drawn at random. What is the
probability 3 balls are drawn:
a. The colour is not considered.
b. 2 white balls and 1 red ball.
c. All three balls are white.
d. At Least 1 ball is white
e. All three balls are red

Question 4). Mutually exclusively events

The blood groups of 200 people are distributed as follows: 50 have A blood type, 65 have B
blood type, 70 have O blood type, and 15 have type AB blood. A person selected at random
from this group, what is the probability
a. that this person has AB type blood.
b. A or O blood type.
Part 2). Non mutually exclusive events
- There are 150 officers, 60 belong to the army and 90 are naval officers. 25 of the army
and 50 of the naval officers read the newspaper daily. An officer is selected at random
from them. What is the chance that would be an army officer or reads newspaper?
Or
- Among 200 seats available on a British airways flight, 40 are reserved for smokers
(including 16 aisle seats) and 160 are reserved for nonsmokers (including 64 aisle
seats). If a late passenger is randomly assigned a seat, find the probability of getting an
aisle seat or one in the smoking section.

Question 5). (Normal distribution )

The time taken to assemble a car in a certain plant is a random variable having a normal
distribution of 20 hours (mean) and a standard deviation of 2 hours. What is the probability that
a car in a can be assembled at this plant in a period of time:
a. Less than 17 hours. (x<17)
b. Between 25 and 28 hours. (25<x<28)
c. Greater than 23 hours. (x>23)

Question 6). (poisson distribution)

- The probability that a person dies from a certain infection is 0.003. Find the probability
that exactly 4 of the next 3000 so infected will die.
- The probability that a person dies from infection is 0.004. Find the probability that less
than 4 of the next 2000 so infected will die. (the variation in question could also be like- 2
in 50,000 die from a certain infection, find the probability that 2 from the next 95,000 will
die.

Question 7). A typist makes 3 errors per page on the average. What is the probability that he
makes:
a. No errors.
b. 5 errors.
On the next page he types.

Question 8). Calculate and interpret of the two variables below (CORRELATION- graphical
method and mathematical method)
Person Hand Height

A 17 150

B 15 154

C 19 169

D 17 172

E 21 175

Question 9). The graph below represents each individual’s weight and corresponding blood
pressure. Recall previous sections of the formulas for calculating a regression line. Using the
correlation coefficient and regression line, interpret the graph.

Person Weight Blood pressure

A 150
125

B 169
130

C 175
160
D 180
169

E 200
150
