¡ Cylinder head, removing

See also: Engine, mounting in work stand.

The method is performed on D16H

1. Remove the lifting plate at the engine's trailing edge.

2. Remove the upper timing gear casing.

3. Install 9993590 Gear wheel in the flywheel housing to prevent the crankshaft from rotating.

4. Loosen the bolts for the flywheel (12 pcs).

ART (the following four steps)

5. Remove the bolts, the thrust plate and the drive disc.

11. Remove the flywheel housing. Weight, approx. 175 kg (385 lbs).

12. For ART, the power take-off shall also be overhauled, see: Power take-off, between engine and gearbox,
reconditioning.

NOTE!
Handle the vibration damper with care. Damage to the vibration damper could lead to vibrations and engine damage.

13. Mark up and remove the vibration damper. Remove:

Ÿ Belt pulley
Ÿ Coolant pump
Ÿ Belt tensioner

Remove the front engine mount and the idler.

25. Loosen the connecting rod (big-end) bearing caps.

NOTE!
The connecting rods are 'fractured' in the big-end and have a three-digit number combination.

Press out the pistons so that the piston rings end up outside the cylinder liner's edges. Use a hammer handle or
other plastic or wooden tool. Remove the pistons and connecting rods. Mark the connecting rods so that they are
reinstalled in the same cylinder.
NOTE!
Do not hammer on the connecting rods' fracture surfaces!
