BSME - 2nd Year Experiment 4 - Analysis

Experiment No. 4: Rectifier and Filter. Rectifiers help convert pulsating alternating
current into direct current that flows in one direction only. So far, we have seen different
types of rectifier circuits. The output of all these rectifier circuits contains a ripple factor.
We also observed that the ripple factor of the half-wave rectifier is larger than that of
the full-wave rectifier. A filter circuit removes the AC component present in the rectified
output and allows the DC component to reach the load.

The objective of the experiment is to generate a wave at the output of a half -

wave and full - wave rectifier and to examine the effect of a filter capacitor on the
output of the rectifier.

In conclusion, rectifiers and filters are essential components in electronic circuits

for converting AC voltage to DC voltage and smoothing out the resulting waveform.
Rectifiers convert AC voltage to pulsating DC voltage, while filters remove the
unwanted components from the DC waveform.

The rectifier and filter combination is commonly used in power supplies, where a
steady DC voltage is required. Different types of rectifiers and filters can be selected
based on the specific requirements of the circuit, which includes efficiency.Overall,
rectifiers and filters play a crucial role in modern electronics, and understanding their
function and operation is essential for any engineer or technician working with
electronic circuits
