Q.1 (a) Calculate Standard electrode potential of Pb electrode if the electrode


potential is -0.180 V at 301 K and concentration of Pb(II) solution is 0.01 M. (5)
(b) Draw a well labeled diagram of Standard Hydrogen Electrode giving
electrode reactions when used as cathode and as an anode. (5)
(c) Draw schematic diagram of Hollow Cathode Lamp and discuss its working
principle. (5)

Q.2 (a) The fundamental vibrational frequency of H 35 C1 is 2890 cm-1. Calculate


force constant (in N m-1) of this molecule. The atomic masses are
m/s. (5)

(b) Differentiate Chromophore from Auxochrome giving suitable examples of
each. (5)
(c) Rank the following bonds in the increasing order of stretching frequency
(cm-1) in IR spectroscopy: C-N, C=O. Calculate the number of
vibrational modes for H20, C2H2, C2H4 and CO molecules. (5)

Q.3 (a) Draw a well labeled phase diagram for water system and differentiate
between metastable and true equilibrium. (5)
(b) What is the reduced phase rule? Where it is applied? Distinguish between
triple point and eutectic point. (5)
(c) 1000 kg of a sample of argentiferous lead containing 0.1% silver is melted
and then allowed to cool. If the Eutectic contains 2.6% Ag, calculate the
mass of Eutectic formed and the mass of lead that will separate out? (5)

What are biofuels? Write the chemical reaction for the production of
biodiesel. What are the advantages and disadvantages of biodiesel? (5)
What are the Power Alcohol, E-Diesel and Synthetic Petrol? (5)
Calculate lower calorific value (LCV) of a fuel which has 8 % H and a higher
calorific value of 6500 cal/g. Latent heat of steam is 587 cal/g. (5)

Calculate temporary hardness and permanent hardness of a sample of
water containing Mg(HCO3)2 = 7.3mg/L; Ca(HCO3)2 = 16.2mg/L;
MgC12 = 9.5mg/L; CaSO4 = 13.6 mg/L (Atomic weight of Mg and Ca are 24
and 40 respectively).

with the help of chemical equations and diagram.

molecules of molecular weight 1000 and 300 molecules of molecular
weight 10000. Find the polydispersity index (PDI).
