FLUENCY TRAINING 3
Linking With The Silent ‘H’

LINKING WITH THE SILENT ‘H’

2
In spoken English, the letter ‘h’ is not usually pronounced in

2
‘he’, ‘him’, ‘his’, ‘her’ and ‘hers’ (these are function words and

0
usually aren’t stressed in sentences) so the first sounds in
these words are the vowel sounds. When one word that ends

2
with a consonant is followed by ‘he’, ‘him’, ‘his’, ‘her’ or ‘hers’,
we link the consonant with the vowel sound in these words
and ‘eat’ the ‘h’.
