FRANCISCO SANTIAGO (1913-2002 Angono, Rizal)

●​ He is considered the “Father of Kundiman Art Song.”


●​ He finished his music specialization at the American Conservatory of Music in
Chicago.
●​ He became the director of the UP Conservatory of Music in 1930.
Famous works: Kundiman (Anak-Dalita), Hibik ng Filipinas, Pilipinas kong Mahal, Pakiusap,
Madaling Araw.

NICANOR ABELARDO (1893 - 1934 San Miguel Bulacan)

●​He is the “National Artist of the Philippines in 1987.”


●​He is one of the “Tatlong Haligi ng Musikang Filipino.”
●​He elevated the status of the Kundiman into an Art Song.
●​Influenced by the musical styles of the Second Viennese School and PostRomantic
European composers.
Famous works: Mutya ng Pasig, Nasaan ka Irog, Bituing Marikit, Kundiman ng Luha.

ANTONIO MOLINA (1894 - 1980 Quiapo, Manila)

●​ He is known as the "Claude Debussy of the Philippines."


●​ He is the first National Artist for Music in 1973.
●​ He mentored many future National Artists for Music, including Lucio San Pedro and
Felipe Padilla de Leon.
●​ He was a product of Romantic and Impressionist school.
Famous Works: Malikmata, Awit ni Maria Clara, Hatinggabi.

LUCIO DIESTRO SAN PEDRO

●​ He is the National Artist for Music in 1991, renowned for his lyrical and patriotic

JOSE MACEDA (1917 - 2004 Manila)

France.
●​ He taught at the University of the Philippines and played a pivotal role in
preserving Filipino indigenous music traditions.
●​ He was named the National Artist of the Philippines for Music in 1997.

LUCRECIA KASILAG (1918- 2008 San Fernando, La Union)
