Define IS FIRST-AID

AIMS OF FIRST AID

3. To prevent worsening of the casualty's condition

Golden Rules of First Aid

Be bold and calm do the First Aid Fast, First Work first.

Do the restoration of Breathing (Air way)-A

Stop the bleeding immediately - B

Restore the circulation-C

Give the assurance to the injured and not to fear

Do not do the unnecessary things do only to restore the life of the


person

Do not make panic & fear fulness to the injured and the neighbor
Injured needs Air and ventilation inform the people around him to
move away.

Do nor remove clothes of Injured.

Be fast in shifting the injured to the nearest Doctor Hospital, inform


his relations and Ambulance.

Responsibilities of first-aid

Preserve life and provide initial emergency care

Provide treatment to sick or injured people

• Protect the unconscious

Prevent the victim's condition from worsening

Promote the recovery of the sufferer.

CPR

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is used in an emergency if


someone is not breathing normally, or their heart has stopped
(cardiac arrest). This combination of techniques is used: chest
compressions. rescue breathing (mouth-to-mouth).

Dressings: Dressings are pads of gauze or cloth that can be placed


directly against the wound to absorb blood and other fluids. Cloth
bandages cover dressings and hold them in place.

1. *Gauze dressings*: Absorbent, breathable, and inexpensive.

2. *Foam dressings*: Provide cushioning, absorbency, and protection.

3. *Hydrocolloid dressings*: Adhesive, waterproof, and promote


autolytic debridement.
4. *Alginate dressings*: Derived from seaweed, absorbent, and
promote wound healing.

5. *Film dressings*: Transparent, adhesive, and provide a barrier


against bacteria.

Bandages

1. *Roller bandages*: Long, rolled strips of fabric used to secure


dressings.

2. *Elastic bandages*: Stretchy, provide compression, and support.

3. *Adhesive bandages*: Pre-coated with adhesive, easy to apply.

4. *Gauze bandages*: Breathable, absorbent, and inexpensive.

5. *Cohesive bandages*: Self-adhering, provide support, and


compression.

Signs and Symptoms of Shock

1. Sweaty but cool skin

2. Paleness of skin

3. Restlessness, nervousness

4. Thirsty

5. Severe bleeding

Face pale or cyanotic in color

Skin cold and clammy, Breathing irregular,

Pulse rapid and weak, Nausea and vomiting, Weakness


First Aid for Shock

1. _Call for emergency help_: Dial the local emergency number.

2. _Lay the person down_: Elevate legs 12-18 inches if possible.

3. _Loosen tight clothing_: Remove constrictive clothing.

4. _Keep warm_: Cover with blanket or jacket.

5. _Stay calm and reassure_: Provide emotional support.

Important Reminders

1. _Act quickly_: Shock can be life-threatening.

2. _Stay with the person_: Do not leave the person alone.

3. _Seek medical help_: Even if symptoms improve, seek medical


attention.

First Aid for Respiration Problem

1. _Check Airway, Breathing, and Circulation (ABC)_.

2. _Loosen tight clothing_: Remove constrictive clothing.

3. _Provide oxygen (if available)_.

4. _Elevate head and shoulders_: Improve breathing.

5. _Call for emergency help_: Dial the local emergency number.

Important Reminders

1. _Act quickly_: Respiratory problems can be life-threatening. 2.


_Stay calm and reassure_: Provide emotional support. 3. _Seek
medical help_: Even if symptoms improve, seek medical attention.

First Aid for Unconscious Person

1. _Call for emergency help_: Dial the local emergency number.

2. _Check Airway, Breathing, and Circulation (ABC)_.

3. _Position the person_: Place on back on firm, flat surface.

4. _Tilt the head_: Gently tilt head back to open airway.

5. _Start CPR (if necessary)_: Begin cardiopulmonary resuscitation if


not breathing.
