REVISION WORKSHEET

LINEAR EQUATION IN TWO VARIABLES

GRADE: 9 SUB: MATHEMATICS

1. If x = 8p – 1 and y = 2p is a solution of the equation x – 5y – 11= 0, find the value of

p.

2. Write two solutions for each of the equation 7x – 5y = 35

3. Point (3, 4) lies on the graph of the equation 3y = k x + 7. Find value of k

4. The cost of a notebook is Rs 10 less than thrice the cost of a pen. Write this statement

as a linear equation in two variables.

5. A fraction becomes 7 when 1 is subtracted from the numerator and 5 is added to the

denominator. Represent this situation as a linear equation in two variables. Also, find

two solutions for this.

6. The taxi fare in a city is as follows: For the first kilometre, the fare is ₹ 2 and for the

subsequent distance it is ₹8 per km. Taking the distance covered as x km and total

fare as ₹ y, write a linear equation for this information.

7. Find the solutions of the form x = 0, y = 0 and x = 0, y = 0 for the following pairs of

equations. 6x + y = 18 and x + 3y = 9. Do they have any common such solutions?

8. Find the value of k, if the line represented by the equation 3x – ky = 9 passes through

the point (– 3, 2)

9. Write four solutions for each of the equation 8x – 4y = 32

10. A man hires an auto rickshaw to covers a certain distance. The fare is Rs. 10 for first

km and Rs. 7 for subsequent kilometers. Taking total distance covered as x km and

total fare as y km. Write a linear equation for this information?
