Project presentation

The project proposal outlines a wireless power transfer system that utilizes magnetic coupling to charge devices such as mobile phones and pacemakers without direct connections. It aims to provide a cheap, reliable, and portable means of wireless power transfer, particularly benefiting the medical field by allowing pacemakers to be charged without surgery. The project includes a budget breakdown for components needed to build the system, totaling 3,500.00.

WIRELESS POWER

TRANSFER
PROJECT PROPOSAL
SAMUEL NG’ANG’A
EB24/43371/19
INTRODUCTION
❖ The concept of wireless power transfer is not new and was realized by Nikolas Tesla. This project is
aimed at transferring power within a small range which could be used to charge batteries for cars,
charging mobile phones or for charging the pacemaker which is a device implanted in a human being
who have heart problems.

❖ The concept broadly utilizes magnetic coupling whereby emf( electromotive force) is transferred from
one coil to the nearby coil without direct connection between the coils.

❖ The project aims at transferring smaller amount of power to demonstrate that electrical power can be
transmitted wirelessly without using the conductors like copper.

❖ This technique can be used in number of applications, like to charge a mobile phone, iPod, laptop battery,
propeller clock wirelessly. And also this kind of charging provides a far lower risk of electrical shock as it
would be galvanic ally isolated
PROJECT SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT

❖ To achieve cheap, reliable and portable means of wireless power transfer.

❖ The main objective of the project is to help those in the medicine field, instead of
them performing a surgery to remove the pacemaker to charge it, they would
charge it using wireless means.

❖ The project also aims at helping people become curious of how they would also
share power from one electronic device to the other wirelessly just like they would
share files and documents.
WHAT IS NEW IN THE PROJECT

 This project is built upon using an electronic circuit which converts AC 230V 50Hz to AC
12V, High frequency. The output is fed to a tuned coil forming as primary of an air core
transformer. The secondary coil develops a voltage of HF 12volt. Thus the transfer of
power is done by the primary(transmitter) to the secondary that is separated with a
considerable distance (say 3cm). Therefore, the transfer could be seen as the primary
transmits and the secondary receives the power to run load.
