Chargeable Weight Simple Calculation

The document explains the concept of chargeable weight in logistics, which is determined by comparing gross weight and volumetric weight. Volumetric weight is calculated using the dimensions of the cargo divided by a dimension factor, commonly 6000 for centimeters and kilograms. Accurate measurements and the correct dimension factor are crucial as they directly impact shipping costs.

Example
Let’s say you are planning to ship 1 carton
from Thailand to the US by Air Freight

Box dimensions = 75 cm x 45 cm x 30cm

Box weight = 10kg
Dim factor* = 6000 (Air Freight not Courier)

Volumetric weight = (length x width x height)

÷ dim factor
= (75 cm x 45 cm x 30cm) / 6000
= 16.90 kg

Chargeable Weight = 16.90 KG
