skills of Arnis.

ARNIS
ARNIS Also known as KALI or ESKRIMA, refers to a
category of Filipino martial arts that emphasizes the use
of weapons whether it befighting sticks, blades of
improvised weapons.
Arnis is a form of martial arts that was developed by the
indigenous people of the Philippines.
FUNDAMENTAL SKILLS
IN ARNIS
GRIP
GRIP (PROPER HOLD OF THE
STICK)
Hold the stick one fist away from
the “punyo” of the stick. (2 to 3
inches)
Close the grip with the thumb.
HANDA

HANDA (READY)
Feet are positioned shoulder
width apart.
Stick is held in front of the body.
PUGAY

PUGAY (COURTESY)
Place the weapon hand across
the chest,
Bow by bending at waist.
BASIC STANCE IN
ARNIS
STRADDLE - LEG STANCE
STRADDLE - LEG STANCE
Spread legs about the twice width
of shoulder and bend knees
outward, heels firmly planted and
toes planting. Distribute weight
event on both legs.
FORWARD STANCE
FORWARD STANCE
Move one leg forward at a distance
about twice the width of shoulder and
about 30 degrees to the side and
bend front leg at the knees with cane
in the center and in fighting form.
Rear leg is extended fully with both
feet flat on the ground.
BACK STANCE
BACK STANCE
Move one foot backward 45 degrees
away from the body. The heels of the
foot should form an imaginary “L”
shape while the legs are in a straddle
position. The body should not be too
low or extended otherwise it will be
hard to maneuver.
SIDE STANCE
SIDE STANCE
move one foot about two feet (2') to the
left or right direction. Moving foot will
be perpendicular to the ground while
the other leg is extended thereby
creating a position like that of a side
kick. Both toes are pointing in front, the
waist and the body is facing forward.
OBLIQUE STANCE
OBLIQUE STANCE
move one-foot forward 45away from
the body until the toe are in line to
each other. Move on the same direction
as the lead foot (e.g. for right foot lead,
move 45 forward to the right.) Both toes
are pointing in front, the waist and the
body is facing forward.
READY STANCE
READY STANCE
Stand with your feet apart parallel to
the shoulder with both toes pointing
forward. The knees should be straight,
the waist and the body facing
forward. Hands are on waist level and
the hands should hold the sticks on
both sides.
ASSESSMENT
PETA #2:
Direction: Group yourself into ten (10) members and
perform the fundamental skills and basic stances in Arnis.
Criteria:
Uniform - 10 pts.
Cooperation - 25 pts.
Mastery - 30 pts.
Execution - 35 pts.
TOTAL - 100 pts.
