Question 02. (4 Marks)
Derive the expression for the equivalent spring constant that relates the applied
force F to the resulting displacement x of the system shown in fig below. Assume the
displacement of the link to be small.
A Triangular block of mass ‘m’ which is connected by a horizontal and inclined spring.
Both springs equally divide the sides they are connected to. Find equivalent spring
constant. Assume Frictionless contact between the block and surface.
A simply supported beam both end is fixed, is loaded with point load of 25 KN at mid and
distributed load of 125KN/m. Consider width of 250mm and thickness is 60mm. Find the
stiffness of the Simply supported beam when maximum deflection is 0.35mm. (Take E = 220
MPa).

Question 05. (4 Marks)
Consider a train boogie, there are 8 spring in each boogie. If each spring stiffness 25MN/m
then find the equivalent stiffness.
A cylinder of mass m and mass moment of inertia J0 is free to roll without slipping but is
restrained by two springs of stiffnesses, k1 and k2, as shown in Figure 1. Find its natural
frequency of vibration. Also find the value of a that maximizes the natural frequency of
vibration.

Question 07. (4 Marks)
Find the equation of motion of the uniform rigid bar OA of length l and mass m shown in
Figure. Also, find its natural frequency.
The mass of the uniform slender rod of weight 3 kg. Find the natural frequency of the given
system. Also Determine the position x for the 1.2-kg slider such that the system period is 1 s.
Assume small oscillations about the horizontal equilibrium position shown.

Question 09. (4 Marks)
The system shown in the figure consists of block A of mass 16 Kg connected to a spring
through a massless rope passing over pulley B of radius r and mass 80 kg. The spring
constant k is 2700 N/M. If there is no slipping of the rope over the pulley, Determine the
natural frequency of the system.
A 4 kg mass attached to the lower end of a spring whose upper end is fixed vibrates with a
natural period of 0.45 s. Determine the natural period when a 2 kg mass is attached to the
midpoint of the same spring with the upper and lower ends fixed.
