4.3 First Aid Brigade
FIRST AID
First Aid should be kept in mind and
understood as the immediate care given to a
person who has been injured or suddenly
affected by an illness or injury, with the purpose
of reducing their suffering. This includes
physical first aid (bleeding control, burns, etc.)
and psychological first aid (words of
encouragement, support emotional).
First aid must be timely, appropriate and
efficient. It is appropriate when it is provided as
quickly as possible, and it is adequate and
efficient when the maneuver performed is
exactly the one that corresponds to each
particular case and is successful. This
assumes that the person assisting has
received training.

necessary.
Importance of First Aid.
It has value in preventing and caring for people
who are injured or sick; caring for people in
cases of disasters or other catastrophes;
distinguishing between what should and should not be done.
Promotes safety at home, work, in the mountains, at school, in
sports facilities, on streets and roads. First Aid training is about
helping others; helping yourself; and preparing for disasters.
Attitude staff in view of a
emergency:
There are basic rules when dealing with
an emergency. For assistance to be truly
beneficial, several measures must be
observed that constitute the first link in
your safety when dealing with the
emergency.

(White)
Rescue and Salvage Brigade
(Blue)
Fire Brigade (Red)
Main functions
The brigade's functions are organized into three stages: before,
during and after the emergency. Taking
into account these three moments, the
main activities carried out are:
Before
Identify possible medical emergency situations
that may occur at the site (worker illnesses that
could become complicated during the
emergency, injuries caused by accidents of
job, etc)
Have first aid equipment available and located in
strategic places previously

members.
1.- When you arrive at
the scene, start by
identifying yourself to
the curious and to the
patient, stating your
name and level of
training. Do this even if you think the
patient is unconscious. If acquaintances or
relatives of the injured person are present,
ask their permission to
help the victim.

Search sources fast of

information to find out what happened.
You must do this in seconds and for them your
sources are: What the patient says. What the
scene shows. What relatives say,

known or curious.
During
- Assess the patient's condition.
- Provide basic first aid assistance
- Determine the need for transfer and medical
care for the patient.
- Keep the Emergency Committee commander
informed about the actions it carries out and
the requirements necessary for the execution
of its tasks.
After
- Evaluate the implementation of response
plans
- Prepare the corresponding report
- Adopt the necessary corrective measures to
improve response capacity, based on the
evaluation carried out.
2.- Curious
3.- Keep calm

A calm, serene attitude towards a sick or injured person, no matter

how serious the injuries or illness, helps the patient to remain calm
and accept help. In the presence of a sick or injured person, one
must remain calm, encouraging him, instilling security and
confidence.
Bystanders can be of great help when
given well-directed instructions to assist
in the care of an emergency. However,
when an imminent danger is identified,
they should be asked to leave and
warned about the risks they may run
that could affect the patient's care in
one way or another.
3.- Curious
4.- Considerations
A quick classification allows to
determine whether a patient presents
a medical case or a trauma case.
The patient's state of consciousness
will help him/her to expedite, plan
and develop the appropriate
procedures for his/her care, giving
priority to what at that moment may
aggravate his/her condition or
threaten his/her life.
