Petroleum Engineering
Petroleum Engineering
It is important to note that the oil industry is made up of several multidisciplinary teams; the
petroleum engineer usually works together with geologists, geophysicists, chemists and
physicists. Another factor to take into account is that the quality of teaching in this
profession is higher in oil-producing countries. For example, in Russia there is the Gubkin
Russian State University of Oil and Gas, which aims to meet the demand of national and
international markets related to the industry.
It is important to note that petroleum engineering is a different branch from petrochemical
engineering (many people confuse both branches) while petroleum engineering studies
and specializes in the exploration, drilling, transportation and storage of oil, petrochemical
engineering works mainly in the transformation of oil into derivatives. The main fields of
petroleum engineering include exploration, reservoir engineering, drilling engineering and
production engineering.
Profile
If you like numbers, you like physics and chemistry courses, you read articles related to
the field, you like innovation and working in a group, you may find petroleum engineering
interesting as a professional career.
Job opportunities
A petroleum engineer can work in both national and multinational companies related to the
oil industry in the different stages (exploration, fields, drilling and production).

Civil Engineering
Civil Engineering is a branch of engineering that mainly applies knowledge of Physics,
Mathematics and Geology to the development and construction of structures, hydraulic
works and transportation. It has a strong organizational component that is applied in the
administration of urban and rural environments, not only in the field of construction but also
in the maintenance, control and operation of the constructed works.
PROFESSIONAL PROFILE
The Civil Engineering Degree is structured on the basis of Physical, Mathematical and
Geological Sciences; it is intended for the comprehensive training of Civil Engineers so
that they are trained in the scientific and technological knowledge acquired through study,
experience and practice. The Engineer will be able to: - Participate in the planning process
of civil works, as well as in the structuring of appropriate mechanisms for their execution. -
Analyze and design civil works, taking into account the safety, functionality and economy
parameters necessary for the qualification of a particular work. - Build, supervise and
manage civil works, organizing technical, administrative, financial, legal and coordination
stages in the execution of a civil work. - Provide teaching and research, and be able to
transmit knowledge in the field of higher education. Job Market Civil engineers are
required in: - Public companies: Prefectures, mayor's offices in Cercado and provinces,
National Road Service, SEMAPA, Social Investment Fund (FIS), universities of the
National and International system, etc. - Private companies: Construction companies in
general, consulting companies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), private
universities, international agreements, capitalized companies (YPFB, ENDE, ELFEC, etc.).
Goals
The Civil Engineering Degree aims to train professional civil engineers with technical-
scientific knowledge, with skills and abilities to intervene in the solution of regional,
national and international problems related to civil engineering (design and construction of
infrastructure and basic sanitation works).
Mission
To train professionals capable of generating alternative solutions to technological,
economic and social needs, through a teaching-learning process based on research and
social interaction, with a focus on updating and management of technological and scientific
resources, guaranteeing the development of the region and the country.
Vision
The Civil Engineering degree is seen in a five-year period as a Degree that effectively
responds to the needs of society, training theoretical-practical professionals who
proactively adapt to the economic, social and political situation of the country, effectively
fulfilling the teaching-learning processes through the participation of responsible and
updated academic staff, and with efficient application of integrated management,
monitoring, evaluation and information systems.
