Procedure for correct timing synchronization

1. Adjust piston No. 1 in the TDC. (Image 1).

2. Align the timing marks on the balancer shaft toothed pulleys


with the marks on the cylinder block. (Image 2)

3. Assemble the tensioner assembly (A) with the tensioner offset


towards the water pump and fully hand tighten the nut (B).

4. Install the timing belt (D). (Image 4)

5. Loosen and retighten the nut (B) to tension the timing belt (D).

6. Align the camshaft pulley timing mark with the mark on the
cylinder block, align the fuel pump pulley timing mark
with the mark on the cylinder block. (Image 5)
7. Mount the tensioner (E), moving it towards the water pump and temporarily
tighten the screw (F). (Image 6)

8. Install the timing belt (N) in the following order: a)Crankshaft pulley (J), b)Fuel
pump pulley (I), c)Tensioner pulley (H), d)Camshaft pulley (G). (Image 7)

9. Loosen and retighten screw (F) to tension timing pulley (N). (Image 6)

10. Once the tension of both timing belts is adequate, proceed to tighten the nut
[B] and screw [F] to 22~30 Nm (16~22 lb-ft). (Image 3 and 6)

Note: To check the correct tension of the timing belts, align the timing marks
on the camshaft pulleys, fuel pump and balancer shafts with their respective
marks on the cylinder block. Once this is done, ensure that the band has a
longitudinal displacement of 4 to 5 mm when pressing it as shown in the figure
(Image 8)

11. Turn the crankshaft pulley 4 turns clockwise and check that the timing is
correct; if so, continue with the following steps, otherwise repeat the steps
described above.

12. Install the lower cover (K) and the upper cover (L) of the timing belt and torque
the screws on both covers to 10-12 Nm (7.4-8.8 lb-ft). (Image 9 and 10)

13. Install the crankshaft pulley (M) and torque to 180-200 Nm (133-147 lb-ft).
