A. Introduction: This course is offered by Dept. of Psychology as a core course, for postgraduate students. The main
objective of this course is to familiarize the students with the research methods and data analysis techniques in psychology.
Offers in-depth knowledge of qualitative methods in research, data collection, and test constructions.
[PO1] Disciplinary Knowledge: Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of major concepts, theoretical models,
perspectives, empirical findings, and historical trends clinical psychology.
[PO2] Effective Communication: Demonstrate Fluency in articulation of ideas; scientific writing and
authentic reporting; effective presentation skills
[PO3] Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Demonstrate critical awareness of one's worldview, values,
and biases and their influence on one's approach to psychological science and practice and use the
scientific approach to solve problems related to mental health and behavioural change.
[PO4] Research Related Skills: Review and analyze scientific texts, develop research proposals and
conduct, document and disseminate research.
[PO5] Information/ Digital Literacy: Accelerate learning by using information and communication
technologies to access, evaluate, and use a variety of relevant information sources; and use
appropriate software for analysis of data.
[PO6] Scientific Reasoning: Acquire the values of accuracy, objectivity, scepticism, and open mindedness
to develop a scientific temperament.
[PO7] Multicultural Competence: Demonstrate the awareness of the social and cultural diversity in

survey, Observation, Surveys/ Questionnaires, Interviews, case studies, Archival Data, Projective and psychometric tests,
sociometry, content analysis; Test Construction: The concept of latent variables; Constructs and Measures; Theory of
Measurement of Error - Classical Theory, Item Response Theory; Drafting and Compilation of Test Items; Item Analysis; Factor
Analysis: Need for Factor Analysis, Exploratory Factor Analysis; Confirmatory Factor Analysis; Use of statistical software in
research: Basics and use of Excel, SPSS, and Open source software in research.
