Convex Lens
Convex Lens
AIM:
To find the focal length of a Convex lens by plotting a graph between
‘u’ and ‘v’
APPARATUS:
An oprical bench ,three upright, a Convex lens holder, two optical
needles and a half metre scale.
FORMULA:
When a ray of light, parallel to principal axis incident on the lens,
after redraction, it passes passes through the focus or appeare to
passes through the focus .In case of convex lens nature and size of
the image depends upon the position of the object. To find the focal
length of a Convex lens. we Use lens formula = 1/f=1/v-1/u (or)
f=uv/u-v
Where f the focal length of convex lens in the distance of object
needle from the optical Cen
V is the distance of image needle from the optical Centre
The signs of v and u are to be taken as positive or negative as per
New Cartesian sign conversion

PRECAUTIONS
(ⅰ) the uprights should be veritical (Use sprit level to make the
optical bench horizontal)
(ii) Do not place the object needle closes to the rough focal length of
the lens this will produce a virutal image.
(iii) Tips for object needle and image needle should at same height
and should the Corresponding of the lens
(iv) Keep your eyes apart 30 cm away from the image needle to view
the image cleary
SOURCE OF ERROR.

(ii) The parallel removed may not be perfect
(iii) the Scale chosen on graph may not be accurate
