Final 12 Physics Project Name(s)____________________________________ Block _____

Project Title____________________________________________

As individuals or in pairs, you will research, design and build a device related to physics. If you must be in a group
of three, the expectation for your model will be higher. You will research applications of your device, similar
commercial devices and find a local company that designs similar products. Throughout the project you will film a
documentary of the process and present it with your device.

Possible projects include, but are not limited to making

• a speaker, microphone, radio
• your own capacitor/battery/fuel cell
• a Flashing/Multicolour/Pretty LED array
• a earthquake resistant building
• a motor, generator (and use it to do something)
• sun tracking photovoltaic system – solar cells (glass box, rotation, cleaning, concentrating)
• Design a guitar pickup, amplifier
• a synthesizer, piano, instrument
• a device using an Arduino – line following robot, balancer, proximity mapper robot etc
• a ‘smart’ device for the home
• an alarm system
• work with nanomaterials (small stuff) – ie make a hydrophobic surface, make and analyze a crystal
• a child’s toy, a remote control car
Your video should be 4-7 minutes long.
Timeline:
May 11 – Three ideas and one paragraph of what you plan on building. Take video.
May 15 – Choose one project and come up a list of materials.
May 22 – Work period - Build a prototype or begin to build one aspect of your device. Take video.
May 30 – Continue building your device – Working basic prototype due Friday. Take video.
June 2 – Bring in working prototype
June 5 – Find similar devices on the market, local manufacturers and contact them.
June 8 – Work Period - Work on project/video
June 12 – WORKING MODEL COMPLETE
